Can anyone verify if and when the Intel CPU price drops are going to happen?
I heard that it might be Jan 21st, but it's hard to find when searching on Google.
My feeling is that maybe they had planned on a price drop, but since they are still hot seller, they may not?
Anyone know for sure? My birthday is at the end of the month, and I'm thinking about buying an E6600 (if the price goes down).

21st is the day the E4300 hits the street ,2nd quarter is when the price cuts come, thats when the Q6600 drops to 500 USD,or less.As well many new and far cheaper models will be introduced, like the E6420/E6320.

I heard that the E6420 and E6320 are going to be priced the same as the E6400 and E6300 (which should be cheaper by then) but will have the 4 meg cache. The 00 models will likely be discontinued.

<-- Can't wait for the Q6600 price drop IF there is a significant gain with it in Crysis, Alan Wake, UT07, etc....

E4300 looks like very good value for money. I am still pining for an E6600 though.

What are specs on E4300?

1.8Ghz
2mb L2 Cache
800mhz FSB
No VT
65nm

Overclock like mad, Anandtech got one to 3.3Ghz on Stock cooling

Basically stripped back C2D's, Bottom end.

the E6420 looks hawt tho, E6400 with 4mb cache, Perfect.

So Anand (one guy) got one that Intel sent him (I'm sure they tested it before they sent it) up to 3.3GHz, and people automatically think they are all gonna OC that high? I would never buy the farm based on one review of a reference chip.
E6420 does sound yummy though.

There have been more reviews out on it then just one sample, that was potentially cherry picked..... Overclocks like that have been
known of on other samples that were not cherry picked.A few people
have them and are already getting 3.3 to 3.4 out of NIB.

I stand corrected. Thanks.

Search for the Q6600 on [H]ardOCP,as a guy on the FS/FT forums is selling
a few for 700 delivered right now.

I am not really in need of it. My rig kicks arse. I will be paying less than 600 when I get mine. Be careful buying CPUs from other folks. Some unload ones that do not OC well.
