448mb?!

Yeah, I thought that was fairly excessive too. I guess the DX10 stuff really is a hell-of-a-lot of code.

EDIT: 3000 POSTS!!!!!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!

Direct3D 10 RTM

The DirectX December 2006 SDK contains the first official release of Direct3D 10, the latest graphics platform from Microsoft. Developers can now publish and distribute Direct3D 10 applications and games that leverage all of the software and hardware features of Direct3D 10 in Windows Vista.

Looks like this is for Vista LOL.

One redistributable, many OS's. DX10 only in Vista, other minor updates for DX9 users.

So is there any point in downloading this without Vista (and no driver lol)? My internet really sucks, 512k DSL so 450MB takes about 2.5hrs...

If you are no DX developer, then you don't need the entire SDK. You only need the end-user redist (which was released last month and has been released on a bi-monthly basis): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=77BC0499-19D0-46B6-A178-033D9E6C626B&displaylang=en

It's SDK, the runtimes are already included in Vista.

1) it was posted almost a month ago.

2) its a SDK

3) DirectX10 will not be in XP

4) DirectX10 went RTM with Vista RTM

5) you only need this file, if you are a developer.

You need DX SDK for update d3dx10 binary and if you want backwards support. Translation you do need to install the SDK until the Redist comes out.

And the point of DX10 without any drivers for a DX10 video card?

Make alot more sense if Microsoft did give XP users DX10. They will probably end up doing it anyway. Why you ask, they said same thing about earlier versions of Windows and they ended up putting updates to DX9 for those as well.

Microsoft will ultimately release DX10 for XP if not soon, then later once most games are only DX10 compatible, or else a lot of people will not buy the games. Microsoft will get pressured into it. Directx updates have been coming and coming. What makes people think they'd only release DX10 with Vista. Sure they are releasing DX10 with VISTA, but I think they will end up bringing it out for XP to. They make money either way, rather you bought XP, or Vista.

Edit downloaded, and installed nothing changed. According to my dxdiag, I am running 9.0C. Waste of time as said above. Just download the runtime for December, its smaller.

I think it will be possible to have DX10 for XP but it would be handled diffrenently.

Its almost something they have to do. As XP users we all did pay for updates, and all DirectX 10 is, is an update.. DirectX 9 is apart of XP, and that would make 10 nothing more then an update. Its a product that came WITH XP.

If I know game developers they will pressure Microsoft into releasing at the very least a DX9.5 rather then call it DX10.

Why would'nt they release DX10 for XP unless there is something in XP that pervents DX10 from working,so far all I hear is how games are slower with Vista,And I know I will not be updateing until the games can run as fast on Vista as they do on XP.The only reason I see them not releaseing DX10 for XP is to make you buy Vista.

My God!!!!!! Has anybody seen the video download from CES Vegas demonstrating Vista Direct 10X on a 8800 EVGA GXT with drivers? It is amazing. The graphics, shading and effects are unbelievable. Go to Nvidia download in game section and download "World of conflict" and "Enemy terroritory quake wars". It will amaze you. Download all downloads. It's no secret that Nvidia has the drivers and they are stable and the demonstration of the videos prove they mut have rocked CES Vegas. I have been to 5 to 7 computer stores in the Seattle area and 680I motherboards, 8800 series (GTX and GTS) are sold out. CompUSA can't get them because they are on backorder from Nvidia partners they told me.
