I saw the inital article about porn going HD-DVD, but what I posted came up recently. Like it stated, a few wanted to go the Blu-Ray route, but manufactures were under pressure to not deal with porn companies, and didn't want to loose their license.

From the same token people have said Sony gave some under the table incentives to the porn industry to back UMD... it just doesn't make any sense.

sony is being hardheaded, they told the porn industry that porn on blu-ray is a no go. they didn't learn their lesson from last round (beta vs vhs). not only that but basically the smaller studios found it cheaper and more practical to use HD-DVD as opposed to BD.

VHS winning the support of the general public because of porn is a sort urban legend. Cost and licensing fees was what drove people and companies away from Betamax.

The situation is somewhat different with Bluray (Bluray specs are regulated by a consortium, unlike Betamax), although it was Sony, once again, which worked against making a unified standard leveraging its connections with the Hollywood movie industry.

Which basically says: We (the porn industry) wanted to choose BlueRay as our high definition format, however Sony told us to go **** ourselves and blocked our attempts at producing porn on BlueRay. Due to these tactics most of the pornography industry has decided to release on HDDVD instead.

So not only did they originally want to go BR, and Sony told them they can't. Sony also threatened to pull disc making licenses from BR disc production firms in the USA if they put porn on BR discs.
Regardless of if you think porn is good or bad, they make and sell a lot of movies, and will do so regardless of the opinions of Sony. These kinds of moves by Sony really makes you wonder what the heck they are thinking purposely killing support for their format.

HD Porn != VHS Porn

It will not have the same effect today as it did then because porn is widely available on DVD and VHS in addition to internet downloads, many of which are in 720p.

HD porn is readily available and it's not the kind of video you pop in to show off to your friends and family in order to highly your new HD setup. It will help HD DVD for sure, but not to the extent it helped VHS.

Not sure where your recent links are from, mine is from a response to that story....

"Washington, D.C. (January 12, 2007) -- Vivid Entertainment will release its first adult film on Blu-ray and HD-DVD in late March or early April, TVPredictions.com has learned.

The first release will be Debbie Does Dallas... Again, a remake of the classic Debbie Does Dallas. The film stars Stefani Morgan as Debbie and is directed by Paul Thomas.

Vivid, which generates $100 million in sales annually, told TVPredictions.com last November that it would release its debut HDTV DVD on Blu-ray first and HD-DVD later.

"As of now, it (the first release) will just be Blu-ray," said Vivid CEO Steve Hirsch. "But that's not to say we won't release it in HD-DVD later. Blu-ray seems to have the momentum. But we're not in the business of picking winners. We will produce content for all formats.""

"Ars contacted the Blu-ray Disc Association for comment on Joone's allegations. "There is not a prohibition against adult content," said Marty Gordon, vicechair of the BDA US Promotions Committee and vice president of the Philips Electronics Hollywood Office. "The BDA welcomes the participation of all companies interested in using and supporting the format, particularly those from the content industry. We look forward to working with any content providers interested in providing their audience with [the] best possible high definition home entertainment experience.""

Common sense should rule out a good number of stories that people seem to love to jump on...

Here's the same story as linked above from the exact same site you used http://www.tvpredictions.com/adulthddvd011107.htm

But hey, these are all entertainment companies and new sites.. they will say anything to get what they want. Obviously the best advice for everyone, is to refuse to buy either format until the pissing match is over.
