Are the XBR models in their SXRD Grand WEGA line of LCoS TVs really worth the almost 50% increase in price?
I was starting to plan my future TV purchase and really want to get one of the SXRD LCoS TVs because, as much as I don't care for Sony these days, I can't deny that they make arguably the best displays on the market and if I'm going to invest in a good HDTV, I want the best for my money.
Anyway, I was planning on getting this:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-KDS-60A2000-Grand-1080p-Projection/dp/B000GZUN9W/sr=8-2/qid=1168746823/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/103-7738011-8281406?ie=UTF8&s=electronics
But then looking on Amazon today, I saw this coming soon:
http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000IHM940/ref=s9_asin_image_1/103-7738011-8281406
I know the two 70" versions evilchris has are the XBR models, but I guess I'm not exactly clear on what, if anything, makes it worth the huge increase in price.

From what I've seen, the XBRs have the best upscaling of any HDTV they have at my local Best Buy. 720p, which looked like crap on most of the other 1080p TVs looked amazing on the XBR. I know it wasn't actually 1080p because it was ESPN HD broadcasted in 720p.
When I was shopping for a new for a new HDTV I was looking at the XBR 3, the 1080p picture was jaw dropping, I almost pulled the plug. I heard rumors about uneven back light so I went to Tweeter and asked them to put the TV on a blank input and turn the lights off, this what I saw http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=748779 My advice would be to stay away from these sets for right now (lee63)

I'm not getting an LCD though...
It's LCoS (liquid crystal on silicon). The LCoS line is completely separate from the LCD line. :)

Thanks... :D I just wanted to make sure the XBR technology was in fact worth the increased price. I have no problem saving a bit more/longer to buy this. :)

You might want to take a look at the JVC LCoS (JVC calls them D-ILA) TVs too. I just picked up the HD61FN97 and love it. It has a stunning picture that easily rivals the Sony. It's a popular set over at the AVS forums as well:

WorstBuy has them on sale today for $2149.00.

Dang, the two I've been looking at and wanting both have the issue (Sony & Samsung).

XBR2 is worth the increase. DRC 2.5 + 180W lamp is a no brainer.

The 60" XBR? EDIT: And yeah, they're pretty lame...but they have some of the best prices I've seen.
Plus, if you open an Amazon credit card, you get $30 off!
Don't seem to have any extended warranties, though. :(

The 60" XBR?
Yes. It launched at the same time as the 70. In fact you could get it 1st. They are worth around $2800 new in box and can be had for that local. Less online.

Yeah that's MSRP. Go to tweeter a week before Superbowl and offer them $2800 and they'll take it. I got my 70" $1000 under MSRP doing this.

What's Tweeter? High-end HT store? If so, I don't think we have those here. :(
I could try American...
EDIT: Just checked, the nearest one is one of the 'burbs of Chicago.
