....and I'd sort of like to make sure I haven't forgotten anything important in the last couple hours I got before he comes here.

First the basics:

XP2200+
1 x 256mb PC2100 Generic DDR
KX7-333R motherboard with all orignal parts and disc's
SK-6 CPU solid copper kooler and 1 case fan installed
generic mid tower case with 400watt PSU with 2 front USB ports
48x12x48 lite-on burner
16x Sony DVD drive
GF4ti4200 64mb DDR 3.5ns Leadtek all cables and stuff
80gig maxtor ata133 7200 RPM drive 2mb cache
10/100 nic card
sound blaster live 5.1 sound card
new keyboard and mouse

I got him about a week and a half ago, and his name is Vladd. A hell of a fine little gaming rig, 'specially for $525! It came with Win2K installed, but I didn't like it so I wiped it and started fresh and have just been tweaking and installing since it got here.

Now Vladd is leaving, and I feel all sad. Dang it, I have GOT to quit getting emotionally attached to hardware!!!

Me friend is coming by in about 3 hours to pick up/get orientated on his new PC, and I gotta admit that I'm a bit excited as I'm pretty dang proud of the set-up on his rig now. (Hey, it's a schweeeeet rig...it's easy to get it set up well. :) )

Let's see:

-win98se/winXP dual-boot, both OS custom tweaked to the gills along with user friendly instructions on maintanence & preference changes & such.

-Photoshop6, OfficeXP, Nero5, SmartFTP, Netscape 3.0, all tweakers.

-Half-life, Soldier of Fortune, GTA3, Mafia, Unreal, Nali Pa, Unreal Tournament, UT2k3, Unreal2, Alice, Star Trek: Elite Forces, The Sims, Jedi Knights, Jedi Knights 2, Medal of Honor, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, No One Lives Forever, NOLF2, Rogue Squadron, Red Faction, Blade of Darkness, Oni, MDK2, AlienVPredator2, Max Payne, and DeusEx

-Lots of "linux keyboard drivers" ;)

-LOTR-TTT & Star Trek Enterprise complete first season. :D

-Bonus goodies, everything I could think of. :)

I still gotta install SS & SS:SE on her, but all games are full-installs and fully tweaked and configured. (Not to mention running better than they do on my best rig. )

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the finished results. I figure it'll keep him busy for a while. ;)

Did I miss anything? Sorry for posting this in OT, but I ain't looking for any technology help on this...more of a general opinion of what I forgot to put on it that a new user would want on their new toy. ;) Any input/advice is appreciated.

Awesome rig... and nice of you to put that many games on there. That should keep him entertained for quite a while.

Great setup

Gust a couple of things, why do people still make dual boots with XP and WIN98? Just a question ;)

the other thing would be to uninstall the Sims :p or at least edit your post, I wouldnt tell anyone I had that game :POKE:

Im not an RPG fan, but my brother inlaw is, and he is loving Never Winter Nights, more so than Dungeon Seige!

1. He's coming from win95 and I don't want to shock him too bad
2. He's behind in gaming, so I expect there's some older games he'll want to play and I still prefer 98se for that.
3. It never hurts to have another OS to boot into in case you screw one up.
4. You can do some neat tricks by jumping back & forth 'tween em, it makes clean driver un-installs a lot easier. ;)
5. I like 98se, but figured I'd best give him XP too since it's becoming so darned trendy.

Yeah, me and him are both sort of heavy into FPS...it is a bit unbalanced but it's what I considered to be some of the best I have. (At least what I play lots, and me instructions were to "set it up like you'd like it set up" since he's always liked my rigs. :) )

It was a whole lot of fun actually, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what he thinks of it. :)

I really should throw Diablo 1 & 2 on it, and maybe Morrowind. I dunno, I ain't that fond of Morrowind...but I have a very short attention span. (Thus my addiction to FPS... ;) )

Me too. I still remember me, him, and another old friend back in 85 being amazed by the original flight simulator on a 386....this is gonna sort of pop his brain. :D (In a good way.)

I just kept reminding myself of the times he bailed me out of jail or saved me hide and didn't steal a single component out of his rig.
