Laptops with G86M (Geforce 8600 Go) and G84M (Geforce 8300 Go) will be out in Q2 2007 from April. But here will be no G80M (Geforce 8800 Go) because it too much for a 90nm chip on notebook so instead Nvidia will release G81M (Geforce 8900 Go) later in Q3 2007, about 3 months after desktop G81. Nvidia will do the same thing with G81 what they did with G71, that will mean both G81 and G81M will use 65nm shrink of G80 plus with new features maybe include an increase from 384bit to 512bit interface. :)

Maybe when ASUS XGstation are out in Q2 2007, you can plug in Geforce 8800 series card in it as it accept up to 2 slots. :D

Its a great step forwards in upgradability for laptops, is there any real standard for it yet tho?
I recall Nvidia having their MXM stuff, and ATi something else..

Most companies use the MXM from Nvidia standard. I remember 2-3 years back when pics of ATI chips surfaced on the MXM format at one of the computer shows. Seems the MXM standard has a stranger hold than ATIs. Although with the new DAAMIT company, that could change as they offer discounts for those who buy ATI and AMD products together.

Ok cool.
But ATi DID make their own standard, Axiom.
I guess maybe the laptopmaker decides which to use or something, or maybe axiom died out or something..

did some googling out of interest..
“If one of our customers chooses to implement an ATI mobile GPU with MXM we would support them. Our attitude has consistently been to support our customers with whatever design specification they choose for their notebooks - with MXM this would be no different,” Jon Carvill, a spokesman for Markham, Ontario-based graphics company told X-bit labs.
So I guess its up to the laptopmakers, seems a bit like MXM has been established as standard by now then?

great! I play all my games on laptop now. can't wait to get an 8800 laptop this fall. I'm out of town all the time and I like still being able to play my games in hotel room. See my laptop rig in my sig. It kicks ass. I don't run FSAA on these tiny high rez screens as it is not needed so laptop cards last me a long time.
