Do I need to get a subscription in order to play online gaming? I mean, for my ps2, all I have to do is plug it into the network and play madden online.

Do I have to pay in order to play online?

XBL Memberships (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/memberships/)

gold = pay for, i believe premium comes with one free month of gold

silver = free

If you want to play games online then you must have Xbox Live Gold, so yes... there is a subscription involved if you wish to play with others.

although according to microsoft, MMOs would be possible via silver subscription, not sure what games that refers to though

I think it is worth it though. I have had XBLive since beta, and I have never regretted it. Over the course of its life span on the original xbox it only got better, and there was some sort of standard experience across all games.

Now with the 360 it only got better.

subscription cards can be had for cheaper on fleabay too :D usually around $35, and that's for a 12+1 month card, less than $3/month

Paying $4.15 a month for Live Gold is definitely worth it. No other system (including the PC) offers the seamless multiplayer gaming environment that Live delivers.

You can play the final fantasy MMO without having to buy a gold subscription, but then again you need to pay square-enix monthly to play.

I've had a xbl gold subscription since I got my 360 in december 2005, haven't regretted it. But if it is a big deal, you might want to return your 360 and get a PS3.

So does this mean you still will be playing online, or do we have to wait for you to get back on during the summer?:D
