View Full Version : Vista Forceware 100.30 on 7 series AGP

Excuse me posting this in a seperate topic, but it's a pretty specific problem that'd get lost quickly amongst all the jubilant 8800 owners on the main driver thread.

( happy for you 8800 owners btw :) )

With the modded inf for the 100.30 drivers, i see 7 series owners (7900GS/7800GTX/7950GX2) can install the driver on vista x86, and see some significant gains over the old 9x.xx driver performance in some games (CS:S etc).

However on my AGP based 7800GS the driver installs but fails to work, with error code 43.

Has anybody with an AGP based 6 or 7 series card got these 100.30 drivers to work on vista x86?

Feedback appreciated, whether success or similar failure, thank you. :)

Did you try the modded .inf file from laptopvideo2go.com? I just installed these on WinXP x32 using a modded .inf file from TweaksRUs.com. Although, there is one small problem involving the nv4mini.sys file, which Vista drivers don't have.

Hi, thanks for the reply :)

I was using the modified info from laptopvideo2go.com, yes.

I'm looking at tweaksRus.com and i see the 100.30 driver download, but only mention of a modified inf being posted later... any chance of a link? cheers. :)

Although... You say there's a small problem with nv4mini.sys, which the vista driver's lack... are you saying you used an inf from an xp driver with the vista driver files? I'm not sure i follow.

I'm not that familiar with forceware driver components, so forgive me if i'm being a bit dense here. :)

I had to use the nv4mini.sys file from the 97.44 set. I also copied the contents of the TweaksRUs 97.44 XTremeG driver's nv4_display.inf file and pasted it into the 100.30 .inf file. What the problem is, is that the nvidia control panel still shows 97.44 because of the 97.44 nv4mini.sys file I had to use, but in the Hardware profile under My Computer > Properties, it does show the 100.30 as the driver installed. Sorry if it's confusing. If TweaksRUs is going to release a modded version for XP, then I'll end up getting that one!

Ah you're installing it on windows XP?

I'm trying to get it to install on vista x86 for AGP cards. Previous 97.xx drivers for vista x86 work fine, with full WDDM support for aero.

They're just a bit slow! So i'd like to get the 100.30's working like other 7 series owners.

I've tried using the 97.44 tweaksrus.com XP driver inf, but it complains about missing files, even though i copied nv4mini.sys.

I suspect i'll need a proper vista inf in order to get all the correct vista driver dll's copied over.

Thanks for suggestion though. :)

The Vista drivers use nvlddmkm.sys instead of nv4_mini.sys. The architecture is built around WDDM and is completely different. Even if you were to somehow get them to work properly on XP, it wouldnt be worth it IMO. The drivers are not complete and still in Alpha.

I can install them fine on Vista with my 7900, but the results are still way below XP drivers' performance ingame.

Unable to complete OS boot after a good install in Vista x86 with a 6800GT AGP, back to 97.52 through safe mode.

I've been reading around on this issue and it appears to be only AGP-based cards that are affected because some equivalent PCI-E cards are working. Strange, but true. It's an alpha driver for G80 anyway. It has to be resolved by the time Vista launches

as an addon to things stated by F_L_C the 100.30 driver is much smaller as a package then other drivers main reason is that this set was designed to showcase the 8800 on vista and since there are no 8800 AGP cards or ever as far as i know they didnt buther adding agp modules.
i bet the last thing on their mind while trying to write this driver was that it might get leaked at some point and ppl with agp cards using modded drivers wont be able to install it.

for a fact i am happy that PCI-E 6 and 7 series can get better results which vary with this set so for now i would recommend sticking with the 97.54 or 52 ...

Yeah, I don't think there will be an 8800 AGP :D card but maybe if the final driver is unified, you may be in luck. I guess we shall see.

The INF won't fix AGP support, only the driver can do this.
As said above this is a 8800 driver and probably had no need for AGP support in what ever the driver was supposed to do.

What is AGP?

Did I miss an upgrade?

AGP - Archaic Graphics Port - historians still debate when in the neolithic period this technology first appeared. ;)

Thanks for the replies everyone, seems nobody has got the driver working for AGP cards. As mobilenvidia said, it looks like there's no AGP support on the driver dlls themselves.

Hopefully the next 100.xx driver set will have AGP support. I really can't imagine nvidia abandoning all the Aero-capable AGP-based 6/7 series owners, so i wouldn't worry. :)

You're right, I don't think Nvidia would do such a thing. I think I would give it some time.

Perhaps you may also say AGP = Archelogical Graphics Port...

Thats weird. i installed the driver at release with the modded inf and it worked on my 6600gt agp, aero worked superb but games were slow as hell , just had to add ^^
