These benchmarks are supposed to be false. Guys over at Rage3D say that their sources tell them that the real R600 is going to be much faster - more like 40 - 60% faster than the G80. It will be interesting to see when the card is finally released. At the rate they are going - AMD might even be able to bundle Duke Nukem Forever with the card. :P

Welcome to last year.
The article was written on 12/30/06. Not long ago... AT least someone has put numbers there :)

If you look at the Oblivion bechmarks (1600 X 1200) with eye candies on, R600 is @ 26 FPS vs 19 fps from 8800 GTX (36% Faster!)
I don't believe that R600 can run every game with 30% faster speed.

The bechmark is based on early engineer sample, I am sure the final version will be faster!

These are from an engineering sample so have lowerclock speeds and beta drivers. As for them being false only time time will tell.

I still think this site is simply selling ad space based on hits. So, pick a hot subject and, cha-ching! All the results are subjective (read BS). The big red flag for me is the 8800 GTX numbers. They are not even right and those cards are released.

I think I will wait until these cards are actually released..

Exactly. I'm sure the R600 is going to be fast. I would sincerely HOPE that it WILL be faster than the 8800GTX. If you're second out of the gate you have to be. I doubt it will be more than 5-10% faster than the 8800. Some cases will be slower and in some limited cases it might be 25-30% faster.

Nearly every generation we go through this and almost every time the differences between the flagship cards are marginal at best. It just depends if the price is right and who's bull**** you want to swallow.

R600 will be faster. then a G80 refresh will come out, and that will be on par with the R600, if not a little faster.

this is my prediction.

IGB ddr4 is going to be fast but expensive. I am predicting a price tag of $700 and 450-500. If the specs are true, this thing is going to have an insane amount of memory bandwith.

i heard the R600 is going to be initially released with GDDR3 then the refresh will be GDDR4, but who the hell knows tbh. i know thats not what sites are saying now, but i heard it a while back.

I am wondering what kind of cooler they will need for a 230 W TDP card. Maybe Dyson is getting in the GPU cooler business. They'll need it.

Said perfectly.

Likely slightly faster than an 8800GTX, it does have a ridiculous amount of memory bandwidth though... But 512bit memory bus with 1GB of DDR3 will probably be pretty expensive... over $700 I bet.

One of the better posts on this topic,on this forum, here here ! As usual, the real world difference will be small, and on occasion, slightly faster in certain
synthetic benchmarks.

Out of interest if its significantly faster than a GTX would you go crossfire?

I know just like AMD vs. Intel.... I would go with the best bang for the buck at the time of purchase. However, ATi has had huge driver problems in the past, but from what I have been reading from around here apperently nVidia is in that same boat ATM.

man, $700 would be a terrible price. i wonder how many ppl would pay that.

im startin to like the ~600MB GTS more and more :D

The guys over at Rage are saying $399 to $549 pricetag for the R600XT, and $649 for the XTX. If this is the case, AMD/ATI can't be making a lot of profit on the boards as 1GB of DD4 can't be cheap.

Even if the R600 is faster than my 8800gtx, I need to change my cpu, motherboard and ram before upgrading my video card ;)

Well they had the X1950XTX with 2GHz DDR4 and was priced lower then the DDR3 version X1900XTX.
