Im considering purchasing a DVD upconverter with 1080p and HDMI. I want to get the best quality out of my DVDs on the Sharp Aquos 46in. Do these really do anything? I dont want to spend $150+ if I'm not going to notice the difference. If they do, which are the best?

Unlike some people, I really do notice the difference between 480i/480p/720p/1080i/1080p so its not like this is a "idk whether ill notice SD vs HD" issue, its whether upconverted 480p looks anything like 1080p.

I think the Samsung DVD-HD960 (http://www.samsung.com/Products/DVDPlayer/HiDefConversion/DVD_HD960XAA.asp) looks to be pretty good, but I could be wrong.

The best DVD "upconverter" on the market is the Toshiba HD-XA2 HD DVD player. It has an SO processor that lets it rival $5k video processors.
