Alright, I got really bored waiting for my class today (when I should've been doing homework) and decided to see how cheaply I could build a PC. So I decided also to make a little contest out of it!!!

RULES
1) Describe whether you are trying to build the cheapest rig possible *or* the cheapest *DECENT* gaming rig.

2) Choose ONE website that you would be buying from (NewEgg, TigerDirect, etc)

3) List all components and the price WITHOUT TAX.

4) Only list the subtotal (different states, different taxes).

I'm working on mine at the moment so I'll have mine up soon . . .

Winner gets a prize!!! :D

Nice little build there. I guess maybe I should change the rules to a "decently running PC" (lol at 128MB of RAM). Oh well, I guess it wouldn't be the cheapest rig then would it huh? I'm still working on my build . . . teachers not liking me having the iBook in class lol.

A friend of mine runs an old Pc store and was paying people $5 to take stuff.. A few people walked out with full PII rigs, PIII and some old 486's... Would that count as a the cheapest rig...?

Ehhh . . . the whole point is to hit up a site like NewEgg and build the cheapest rig. Maybe this thread will get some good competition later tonight :D

Well here's what I recently did (or rather started doing) for building a decent gaming rig at a cheap price, though I am going to be breaking your one website rule:

E6300 + DG965WH + Vista ultimate = $220
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1084460

Corsair 4-4-4-12 DDR2-667 2GB kit = $189
http://www.netaffilia.com/ad/electronics/frys/i/2007/01/12/22462.html

Scorpio 5 fan case and 420W PSU: $75 at fry's electronics
Benq DW-1655 DVD+/-RW burner: $45 off newegg

Still yet to buy (waiting for prices to drop):

WD Raptor 150GB: $189
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136012

EVGA Geforce 8800GTS: $400
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130071

That is everything you need save for the monitor, keyboard, and mouse, for a fully working computer. Most people don't figure the cost of windows into their numbers FWIW. This rig, when completed, will probably run all of todays (and probably all of this years) games at tip top settings for a 1280x1024 lcd.

You do realize that what constitutes a "decent" rig will be hotly contested here? Should be fun to watch! :D

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822140118
