N.H.B. I have already built a couple of rigs just like yours. Usually I have only seen them sieze up like that if the "chipset clock mode" setting in the BIOS is set to "performance". I don't know if thats your case but it overclocks the PCI/AGP bus and causes lots of problems. I generally use the SIS 1.13 AGP drivers. Have you tried taking out one or two sticks of memory temp. to see if it goes away? Sometimes the board can be unstable with 3 memory sticks at 333MHz+ speeds.

Edit- Have you also tried upping the DDR memory voltage and the AGP voltage?

Yeah I have the chipset clock mode set to sync but when I downloaded the sis chipset agp drivers to 114 it gave me a new setting in bios called "performance setting" right below sdram one page control which is found in chip configuration. I have this option which didnt come with the mobo bios originally set to "enable". I will disable and see if that helps. What is weird is that this option appeared in bios by downloading the sis agp chipset drivers 114 and enabling it increases my ram speed to a little over pc2700 speeds to about 2850 ram int & float buffered. Disabling it causes my ram speed to be around 2780 int and float buffered. Whats weird is this is my ram speeds changing from an option that got downloaded from a agp driver option and I wouldnt think that ram settings would be changed or have any thing to do with it but they do. Now does this have any relation to chipset clock mode I dont know. Well Im gonna try some games and see what happens. Also 3dmark 2003 runs all the way through w/o problems so why do my games freeze??? :banghead:

Nope changing this setting did nothing, I still get kicked to my desktop although my games usually freeze. Im going crazy!!!!!:wtf:

Have you attempted to change the agp to 4x to see if maybe that is the problem?
It looks to me like it is a config problem, although I do NOT have the experience with that mobo.

I know you bought it for 8x, but it doesn't hurt to check if that is the problem....... plus 8X is far overrated at this time.
Is that a fresh install with no N drivers in it?
Sorry if you mentioned that it is, I checked a couple posts back and didn't see it mentioned.

I dont have any nvidia products in this asus p4s8x pc so no I dont have any n drivers. Well Il try 4x and post later results. Out:cry:

Nope agp 4x still locks my games up, I dont understand I can play for about 2 or 3 minutes then I freeze or get kicked to desktop. Im still gonna try to fix this problem but Im running out of options.

N.H.B. What voltages are you showing on your 3.3v line etc. Have you tried with a motherboard monitoring program running to see if you were getting drops in voltage under load?

In re-reading your posts I noticed that your just getting popped back to desktop. Grasping for straws, 3DMark is running fine but not games it could be a sound card problem. 3DMark does not use sound but games do. Have you tried running the games with the sound card removed or disabled? Is all the onboard sound, unused features, etc. disabled in the BIOS?
Edit- OOOPPPPSS! Sorry you are using 3DM03 and it does use sound.

Im gonna ask a terd question, how can I get game situation data versus what voltages are present before starting game? :argh:

Since you have an enermax 350 i kinda would find it hard to beleive you have power problems. Anandtech uses an enermax 300w to test dual MP boards (those suck the power)

But i have one question that im thinking u probly did but just incase, u pulgged hte radeon in right? it could of fallen off or something.

Yeah my card in seated correctly. I just pulled the side off to check, hell I'll try just about anything!:argh:

I agree with you GlowStick, Enermax are good PS units. I always check voltages though. A couple months ago I put a new Antec 350w PS in a rig we have here at work and it was showing similar problems as him. The voltages were all over the place under load, for ex. 3.3v would be from 2.7-3.4. Exchanged the PS unit and all the problems went away with the voltages never moving a bit.

That is a mystrie, did you try calling ATI and Asus/Sis to see if they have any insight to this?

EDIT--------------------

ah, the voltages could be the probelm

with my intel board they had a utility that was actually decently programed. Im looking if it has logging features, though it seems it dose not.

Im have been to rage3d (ati video card site) and asusboards.com and read up and down people with similar problems. No I havent spoke with either asus or ati because most people have already covered this with them. But Im about ready to! Im checking out other mobos as we speak.

While Enermax is a good supply, I think you might have a shortage of power there.

I have a similar setup here and am using an Antec 430W Tru Power, but I am not sure it is enough, if I add one more device to the system, I am upping the supply.

I sure would watch the AGP bus power closely if I were you.

Yeah Im gonna do what I can to get my games to work but Im running out of options. Ill play around with asus probe and monitor voltage levels. the thing is i dont know how to check under load. Maybe that "record settings" in there will do the trick??:wtf:

NHB If you have Asus Probe installed you can monitor voltages just by clicking the history tab, selecting todays date, selecting voltages in thye menu, then hit the record button. Just leave it running in the system tray. After about a hour go and check the graph.

Thanks rellingsen Ill try that and see if I see if my voltages levels are freaking out.

Glowstick I just ordered one of the geforce fx ultra 5800 oem. I say go get it!

Yeah but, the 9800 pro is almost around the corner, though I LOVE nvidia cards with all my heart. I have a desprite situation, and it calls for desprite measures!

Xoxide or as i like to call them bastages wont give me my darn vga cooler so i could eather spend 20$ on another one, or buy a videa card.

The FX would be a 'now' solution, but if i could just hold out till the end of the month. ahhhh

also my bank is a bit low and newegg is price gougeing.

I spent 550$ on 2 tires for my car, next month ill have money again though hmmm : (

Glowstick I hope it works out for you, from what I read the radeon 9800 will not even be @ 500mhz clock speed and the geforce fx is. Something to think about????:thinker:
