well they will need to be signed or a lot of 64bit Vista users will be unhappy at having to press F8 at startup

The current drivers already are. No need to worry.

I'm gonna go ahead and say, no its not.

IMHO, Vista should have been in place long before SLI was ever mentioned. When was 'Longhorn' first mentioned, mid 2001 or so? Suppose to be released by the end of 2002, I think. It's just frustrating to keep getting disappointed over the seemingly constant delays. Especially for people who put down top dollar for hardware and software in anticipation for this. Six years later after the reveal of the new os, it will be released with beta video drivers as the only ones available. Just seems ashame.

I'm not trolling or anything, just think it should have been all ironed out prior to release. Heck, the main addon, WinFS, has been dropped along with several other selling points. Pretty much just a new 3D GUI and search engine is left with a hefty price tag.

I'm just griping. I'll be buying it too.

[QUOT=Princess_Frosty] ......, it's still a brand new OS and support takes time,.....

That's like saying 'Duke Nukem Forever' is a brand new game ready for release. How many years....

People can't build reliable driver for Vista untill its well passed a certain stage in its development, even in just the latest stages alone drivers built for the beta and RC1 and RC2 were incompatible with each other.

The 2nd problem is DX10 was implimented very late into the development, not to mention the 8800 only coming out near the end of the development. Thats one of the big reasons why there's a grace period between the final copy being made and it being released to consumers, so the hardware vendors have time to develop drivers for the final version of the OS.

That's all that their drivers seem to be able to run correctly after three months of development.

You should at least try to be more positive :headexplode:

You're gonna blow a gasket.

I understand and agree with you. Under the current circumstances that ms put the venders and themselves in though, it's the consumers that will have to be their 'beta testers' enstead of SLI and DX10 being a Service Pack update...maybe? Just more frustrated bitchin' and speculation on my part. I need to keep my mouth shut.

I totally agree with what you say though. It has to progress that way now.

No I won't be more positive. The news that we won't get decent drivers even on 30th was the final blow. I'm at the end of my tether here. I regret returning to nvidia after many satisfactory years with ATI cards. Funny, the reason I returned to nvidia was that I thought their drivers were better... Could I be more wrong?

I know Vista is different than XP, but the driver team can't even give us a beta with working controls for video colors. It's been three months since Vista hit RTM. How hard can it be really? ATI's Vista driver was fully functional on desktop and D3D months ago, all they need to do was implement OpenGL which almost no game released after Quake4 uses anymore. Compare that to nvidia's current situation and you'll see why I'm not more positive.

Call me stupid but what do they mean by "directX9 top applications?"

Stupid.

how about some new xp drivers? 93.81s are quite the buggy set

Yeah, ATI's drivers are just super. I was messing around on a 1900XT the other day w/ the new Catalyst 7.1's and it couldn't even recognize the monitor's refresh rate. And we're talking a ViewSonic monitor here that's only about a year old.

A beta driver is fine. SLI support is important.
Yeah that's been the big hangup for me. I'm not going to upgrade without it. I have a GX2 so it's kind of a must have feature.

RTM was 3 months ago? My, time sure flies when you're having fun, eh?

Really, not to knock Ati, but I had a 9700pro and 9800xt before going 6800 and now 7800 and I really can't say I miss the Ati driver situation. And really, if you remember the past several months before Vista went RTM, nVidia was releasing XP drivers at a rate that could make your head spin, and folks got really frustrated when more than a week went by w/o a leaked driver, with the majority just looking for the fastest bench tests. Lose 3 points in a bench mark and they'd be the first ones calling the driver team idiots.

So, if the nVidia driver team is a little numb to folks crying all the time, I certainly wouldn't blame them one bit. Some folks cannot be pleased, but sounds like you may be able to knock out a great driver in 5 minutes, so why don't you give it a shot!

That was one of the most important reasons that I chose nvidia... I like always having new things to play with. ATI was releasing drivers once a month, nvidia once a week... Now it took them one month just to leak those crappy 100.30 drivers.

Yeah, but I'm sure they don't have unlimited resources. And you exaggerate quite a bit. There's been at least 4 crappy :p Vista drivers since RTM and that's almost keeping up with the rate at which they were releasing XP drivers 2 months ago and before. And also think about the amount of time between RC1, RC2 and RTM. That all happened in what, about 3 weeks, and each of those required a driver that was not even comptible with the previous release. Pretty tall order nVidia could even keep up with that churn. Most companies just sat, and still are, sitting it out until the dust settles. If it were not for the 8800 cards, nVidia might be doing the same too.

Things are not as bad as you make them out to be but I do understand the frustration. Heck, think of how great gaming on a single 7800gtx at 1920x1200 is and you'll understand why I dual boot.

Try getting working Vista drivers from HP, Dell, Creative, ATI or etc etc etc..

Don't rush to the bleeding edge OS if you aren't willing to bleed.

I don't even like Vista. I think it's a bloated piece of crap with no important improvements over XP. It's just that I don't like the way I'm being treated by nvidia. I paid for my card with hard earned money. I didn't win it for free in a contest. As a customer I expect top service, which at least includes a semi-decent driver for the latest OS.

Then why are you even posting in this thread? Go somewhere else.

I can't wait for a drive that finally supports SLI!!! This is going to be schweeeet!

So why are you using it then? Lol its not like someone forced you to buy the latest O.S. and a Geforce 8800.

Personally, I am running the latest Vista drivers and Vista x64 and I think it runs great, and is surprisingly stable for such and early driver.

 Well, I too paid my card with hard earned money but I'm not complaining. :p You think you're ONLY one who is being treated like crap by Nvidia?

Most of us who owns 8800 GTX are disappointed but if Nvidia releases more than decent driver then we'll be happy and forgive eachother. :D Right now be happy that we get 100.30 driver which is rather good for me (never had problems except a few minor ones)

Also no one forcing you to use Vista so you can stop with Vista hate because it's getting boring. (nana2) Even though Vista does have improvement over few area if not by whole.

I'd be very happy to be wrong. I hope we won't get another beta on the 30th like I say and we'll get the real deal, so I'll have to apologize to nvidia. :)

More Vista hating, that is more boring than the Nvidia hating, especially considering how good Vista actually is.

If these drivers were good, I'd expect them to get leaked right away.
