previous geforces have always supported a 32 bit z-buffer, but ati switched to only a terrible 24 bit, so i thought maybe nvidia stopped supporting 32 bit z-buffer since ati stopped. so did nvidia drop support for 32-bit z-buffer w/ the geforce 8? that would REALLY suck.

I actually have no idea.

Mind if I ask why this is so important?

thank you. it's important b/c w/ only 24bit there is z-fighting and artifacts in the distance when there is no w-buffer, if a program uses the w-buffer, then you can get by with a 32 bit z-buffer but not less than that.

ehm the z-buffer is always 24-bit in current cunsomer GPU implementations ? 24-bit Z + 8-bit stencil has been the standard for ages, and is sufficient...
