I use Epox 8k5A3+ mobo which has a 20 pin for power. I'm buying a 650W powersupply unit to replace my old 300W unit since I'm getting a new ATI 850XT AGP video card. I plan to use the new powersupply when I upgrade to Core Duo 2 or quad CPU system later this year. The new PSU has a 24pin power for motherboard.

Can I use the new PSU on my Epox 8k5A3+? Do I need an adapter?

Yes you can use the new PSU, and you won't need a new adapter because you can just disconnect the extra 4 pins from the 24 pin connector. You can even leave the connector connected on most boards, and they will just hang above the board.

Just like he said. You are fine, don't worry about it. :)

Yeah the only time you would need an adapter is if the 4pin overhang interferes with like a capacitor or something.... ( I had an older 865pe 20pin board that required an adapter because the cap was so close to the 20pin connect).

You 'should' be ok, but to be safe you should make sure the PSU you get has the other four pins as detachable. The Corsair HX series has this, for example, while others like the Silverstones I've seen may not. You need to check the specs of the PSU.

I think the extra pins hang to the left if you're tab is at the top.
