Uuurgh. Way to go nVidia...all I wanted was a SLI driver for my 7800GTXs...oh well. The wait continues...

Can the driver be used on 7 series? They seem to have them separated on the site, and 7 series only has RC1 drivers.

I've downloaded it from nVidia site and unmodiffied it works with my 6800GT, so it should work also with 7 series cards.
Does nvidia have any cards or drivers that actually support HDCP? Without it, an nvidia card is pretty much useless for playing high def movies on HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, etc..
I notice ATI drivers are already supporting HDCP and Crossfire.

Nm, just read it supports 6 series and up. I'll just wait, SLI support is only a day away, but I'm willing to bet Quad won't work.

Go with XP and enjoy gaming. Vista is not ready for another 6 months...
What about XP users??? We don't have a damn driver set since last year!! :(

Hard to when you have a new system waiting for just an OS, especially one with 8800GTX SLI.
I'm just hoping Nvidia shows some love for the 7 series as well. I wasn't able to step-up my Quad, so I just kept them.

Ok not sure were I should continue posting questions about this, but I started in this thread so will continue here. Please advise if it should be moved or another thread started, thanks :)
Updated my BIOS so now I can use NVIDIA Monitor, great that works fine, thanks for the help with that problem.
AMD 4200+ Dual Core
2 gig ram
GA-K8N-SLI motherboard, BIOS updated to bios_ga-k8n-sli_f9
BFG 8800 GTX
DELL 2407WFP 24" LCD, desktop rez at 1920x1200
Windows Vista Ultimate full updated
Under WinXP and using nTune to max GPU fan settings I run at 52c at desktop, but will jump up to 62c ish while gaming in World of Warcraft for several hours.
In Vista desktop runs at 64c and haven't loaded WoW yet so I figure it will get much higher.
Thats 12c differance in normal desktop apps.
I looked at RivaTuner 2.0 final but can not seem to figure it out on how to change GPU fan speed. Actually I thought I read in some thread that RT can not do that yet.
I followed this thread http://home.comcast.net/~msl2/RivaTuner.htm
But that version does not work in Vista :(
Can anyone change there GPU fans speed ?

hmm.. a new RT out, says it can adjust GPU fan speed, trying it now

I have a problem getting NFS:Carbon working even after I installed the latest patch. It loads up to the EA screen then exits to the desktop saying nfsc.exe has stopped working. NFS:MW works just fine as do all other EA games.

Doesn't work properly in Vista at all. Can't adjust fan speed at all.

Seems that way :(
So we burn up the 8800 by over heating it, or we burn out the fan by running it at full speed all the time, go figure :(

I'm under strong impression that user shouldn't touch such things. Automatic fan speed adjustment rule is defined by VGA BIOS and it suits best for display adapters cooling system from thermal/accoustic point of view. And it is really easy to shorted fan life if editing rule improperly.
So yes, automatic fan speed control rule is adjustable in RT for LM63 compatible and ADT7473 compatible fan controllers, but due to the things said above it is deeply hidden from beginners and available to power users only. If you wish to play with it and put all the responsibility on your shoulders - contact me via PM and I'll explain how to activate this module.

Just to clarify...
No fan control for G80 under Vista? If no, will that change or is it OS limitation?
Thanks

Release notes explicitly says: no.
- Added extended G80 I2C bus support. Now RivaTuner is able to access all 4 I2C buses available on G80 based bards. Please take a note that currently RivaTuner doesn't access G80 I2C controller directly and uses ForceWare's I2C access layer instead. Direct low-level access to G80 I2C buses will be implemented in future versions. Due to these limitations RivaTuner's I2C access code for G80 will not work under Vista, so low-level features depending on I2C (e.g. fan control, ambient temperature and fan speed monitoring) won't be available under this OS for G80.
Vista users have a chance to see it working only when I'll implement direct low-level G80 I2C access. And it won't happen earlier than I'll get G80 hardware in my PC. And I don't expect that it will happen before the New Year.

I saw the 100.54s and I thought it was time to throw Vista on the gaming rig. I've had it on my laptop since it went RTM and I have liked the OS, but wanted to throw it on a machine that would do it justice (my Dell Inspiron D810 just isn't that powerful). I saw the GeForce 7 series was supported, but didn't read the fine print about no SLI. :(
Oh well...I've got my HTPC rig with the X1950XTX to game on for the time being I guess...

It'd be nice if we could get 1:1 pixel mapping on the driver side. I have a widescreen monitor and can't play some of my games at that resolution. The monitor itself doesn't do the 1:1, so I rely on the drivers to. Works fine in XP, no options for it in Vista. *sigh*

hey is it possible for a driver too do that? i have a benq 24 and people are waiting for a firmwareupdate, is it possible too fix the issue just with the proper driver? thanks
Supposedly this is the latest driver for the just released Vista which in turn has the new often touted fandangled DX10 and yet the new NVidia driver will not have DX10 SLI support until sometime in "the future".
I guess you can't get any more non commital than that.
Release Highlights:
First Beta driver for GeForce 8800 GTX/GTS GPUs
This driver supports the following features:
Single GPU support
DirectX 9 support for GeForce 6/7/8 series GPUs
DirectX 10 support for GeForce 8800 GPUs
OpenGL support for GeForce 6/7/8 series GPUs
DirectX 9 and OpenGL NVIDIA SLI support for GeForce 8800 GPUs will be available on January 31, 2007 in a new driver from NVIDIA
DirectX 9 and OpenGL NVIDIA SLI support for GeForce 6 and 7 series GPUs and DirectX 10 NVIDIA SLI support for GeForce 8800 GPUs will be available in a future driver

yeah im sure it will be so annoying playing all those DX10 games that are out NOW without SLI........ Damn

Yeah well, lets just put your sarcasm aside for a moment shall we.
The point is not whether there are any DX10 games out but rather for the past 3 months NVidia have been sprouting how they have produced the world's first DX10 card and yet they still have not produced a fully functioning driver for that card.
And now with their latest beta driver they still haven't produced a fully functional driver and simply state that they will provide DX10 SLI in the "future" (and DX9 SLI is still not available, but apparently "tomorrow" it will be)
Now, I don't use SLI and never will so it's no skin off my nose but, it certainly is a shame for those who do have SLI and have spent a large sum of money for a feature that still does not work as it should since they bought their card.
So my point is, if a company advertises and provides a retail product then that product should be fully functional both in hardware and support from day one.

Hell, if ATi can get Crossfire to work for their ENTIRE line of X1000+ products in their Catalyst 7.1 drivers, the first non-beta driver for Vista, why cant't NVidia? Makes me wish I would have bought a 2nd X1950XTX and a Crossfire capable motherboard.
