View Full Version : F.E.A.R. Extraction Point Shadow Problems (Vista 64)
Anyone else have problems with incorrectly rendered shadows and low framerate in Extraction Point on Vista 64 with the default drivers?
I have this issue with a 7950GT, the original game is fine, its just the expansion causing trouble.
Havent tried the 100.54 release yet, any word on those with EP?
I had serious problems with shadows too on 32bit drivers.
Check this out.
I get these fps in FEAR test run with the max settings@1024x768:
In Vista 32-bit using the Forceware 100.30 drivers,
Minimum 13, Average 101, Maximum 242
In WinXP 64-bit SP1 using Forceware 97.92 drivers,
Minimum 54, Average 124, Maximum 303
In WinXP 32-bit SP2 using Forceware 97.92 drivers,
Minimum 43, Average 71, Maximum 120
Now, in 32-bit XP FEAR runs fine. In both Vista AND 64-bit XP, after running a test run, the framerate drops down to about 15fps everywhere (menus and in-game) until i exit then restart FEAR.
I didn't experience any frame rate drop on my system, but there are a lot of people with the same problem so maybe my system is just lucky.

FEAR extraction point is the only game that has been giving mer trouble in Vista so far, I seem to remember the demo being ok, but I am not sure if I had migrated by then.
I am being patient though I am sure it will be fixed eventually and I will get to play it :)
I am really glad to see I am not the only one tho!
My framerates are fine with the original F.E.A.R. as far as I can tell, but its a new system and have only tried Vista so far so I dont know, but it seems about right I think.
1650 x 1050 4xAA 16xAF max ingame settings, averages around 50fps on the ingame test which seems about right for a single 7950GT?
Anyway at the start of Extraction Point at the crashed chopper in the same settings theres shadow corruption and the framerate is around 15-20fps. I assume its the problem with the shadows triggering the framerate.
I will try again tonight with the 100.54's and post a screenshot.

great, even more people with FEAR problems
on XP (32-bit) my FPS never dropped under 45fps, and that was with 1680x1050 8xaa, 16xaf and everything in game maxed. now on the vista (64-bit) i'm getting max ****ing 15fps.
and there is more people on the forum with the same problem.
and Meusa, 100.54 doesn't help, still the same problem

Extraction Point is just a buggy piece of software. Even on XP I would get random drops in my fps to 15-20 or so in random places on a single 8800GTX.
I don't know where the bugs lie, but it'll drive you crazy.

nekro--are you running 32 or 64? I know that jakup's running 64 and getting good performance in Fear.

64bit ultimate
first i was thinking it could be sound related, because of my audigy2, jakup got x-fi with alchemy.
but then one person showed up on the forum with x-fi and also ****ty performance.
games that support alchemy, and my resuts with audigy2 and no alchemy
fear = 15fps!!
titan quest = runs fine, about same as xp
battlefield 2 = runs fine, about same as xp
nwn2 = about 35-50% drop
call of duty 2 = white screen, doesn't render anything
I agree that at least as far as F.E.A.R. is concerned it isnt the sound card causing the issues. I also have an Audigy 2 but as mentioned the original game seems fine.
