Hey guys,
I am going to upgrade my video card from a lovely Ti4200.
Here is a dilemma in a couple number questions
1-I can get a ATI made 9700 PRO retail for $300. Do you think I should hold out given the possibility they might get hard to find?also will the price go lower?
2- Should I even spend $300 and get the PRO or should I get a FX5800 for the same price when it comes out?.....or should I live on bread, and tap water for a month and get the 9800 for $100 more.
I am a big time Nvidia fan but I think a chnage might be and but I am also at loss...so even if your fan of either side please give a honest answer.
I would wait. It really isn't that long till the 9700pro will drop in price, next month is 22 days away.
I have been a big Nvidia fan since the TNT2 Ultra. I did how ever buy a 9700pro and it is a dream to run. I haven't had one problem with it.
My opinion for you is to wait till April to see what the 9700pro will do, at this stage in the 9700 series life the Pro is the only way to go since it will be down lower than $250 (hopefully).
Oh and BTW.....in before the move. ;)
Prolly general hardware or other video cards but that would put you in ati trollsville. :p

This belongs to General Hardware!
Damn not having a all-video-card-altogether forum! ""
To be 100% honest.....You have a GF4 TI4200, I think you can wait a few months, accually you could wait until DoomIII and DeusX2, then buy the best card avalible?
The other thing to to consider is the rest of your pc, what cpu do you have, how much ram, etc

Actually the rest of my pc is pretty smokeing, smokey.
P4 2.55
512 RDRAM
80 gig Baracuda
48x24x48 CDRW
Audigy 2
MX500
Forgive me but whenever I get the chance to, I just have to (tell specs). Also yeah mybe your right to wait for Doom3, every game I play it has been able to handle well....its the hype man...the hype.

Waiting for DoomIII isn't a bad idea, if you can live with the performance you're getting from the Ti4200. But I'd think twice about waiting for the 9700 price to drop. I'm not saying it won't, but I still remember waiting for the price of a video card to drop because its replacement was on the market, only to find out that production of the replaced card had been cut, and since it was a very popular card on the market at that time, supply became critical, and prices actually rose a bit on the few that were still available! (Not saying this will necessarily happen, but the same situation seems to be the case as far as popularity / replacement model coming up with the 9700Pro right now, so unless there's a very sufficient supply out there that stores / manufacturer's want to get rid of, prices may not go down on them, as people try to get it at the current lowest price..)
Just something to consider..
If you have a TI4200 now, make it a worthy upgrade and get a 9800Pro. Im thinking its my next card... (also from a TI4200)

Roger that M...but $100 more for a 20% increase from a 9700pro?
Im still using my GF3, still play GR @1280*1024 max settings incl shadows. When my new cpu comes then I can see how well I can play games like Ravenshield, but if I had to upgrade my card today, or in a few weeks it would be the 9800 Pro, followed by the 9700 Pro.
