View Full Version : How on earth do I install latest Nvidia drivers on Vista?

Ok so I see no where to uninstall the default windows vista nvidia driver.

So I download the Beta Nvidia driver for 32 bit vista. Install it and half way through the screen turns black :thumbdwn:

In device manager on reboot its showing x2 7950GX2's one isn't functioning properly the other is. (i'm presuming the not functioning one is the windows default driver still there?)

any guides on how to do this?

From what I can see, you don't actually HAVE to uninstall the old driver first but if you do want to, you can do so via device mangler. Just uninstall from there and select the 'remove drivers button'. DriverCleaner afterwards works too.

I think the reason you see only one of your GPU's working is because your card relies on Sli, and we don't have Sli yet.

But it does sound like the driver itself isn't even installing for you at all, and that could be related to what version of Vista - RC1/2, RTM, etc. I don't think the latest nVidia driver works with non-release versions of Vista but I could be wrong there.

7950gx2 uses SLi, SLi doesn't function on vista (yet)

thas why on core works, second core doesn't

simple as that

Arghhhhh! I have the final release Vista Premium 32-bit.

So even though my card isn't in SLI physically but it is SLI'd in one slot as such, this is the same thing?

I take it i'm going to get a hefty performance hit because of this?

Removed the windows def. driver through device manager and used programs in control panal to remove new driver then reintalled again. This is the result >>>

Can anyone tell me in XP did the 7950gx2 show as x2 devices?

This is what the top device says

"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)"

yes in xp it also showed as 2 devices

and there is no solution, you simply have to wait

The card uses SLI technology to combine 2 seperate cards together, the only difference is that it uses 1 PCI-e slot.

Vista does not yet support SLi so only one card is properly configured to run and you get the relative frame rate drops.

SLI in vista was set to be released today (31/01/07) but has been delayed, although by all accounts it's closed to being finished so I'm sure we'll see it within a week or 2.

delayed by who?

100.54 driver download page clearly still says

DirectX 9 and OpenGL NVIDIA SLI support for GeForce 8800 GPUs will be available on January 31, 2007 in a new driver from NVIDIA

31st is not over yet, so who knows

I hope there not forgetting about the 7 series cards in that!!!

What a joke I pay 400 for a 6 month old 7950Gx2 and already Nvidia are slacking on the driver updates :(

Well from what I understand...SLI for the 8 series cards is coming out ASAP (this week or next) and then they're going to work on the 6 and 7 series cards....which kinda pisses me off...but whatever. Nothing I or anybody else can do about it.

Are you installing the 100.59s? I have the same issue. Some people are screwed I guess. I had to go back to no SLI in the 100.54s.
