Sounds more like someone gave the reporters a warning that the transmisions would be targeted by the bombs. How is a bomb supposed to tell the difference between a reporter and a missle guidence system?
If you are dumb enough to stand out side in a lightning storm with a steel rod you will get hit by lightning. Sounds like the gov gave them a bit of sound advice not to use sat comunications during an attack and they turned it all around.

You know they could solve this problem by simply not transmitting. Record the footage, get back to base camp then transmit. Solve the problem.
As for more on Bush how about this
http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2003-03-09-media-mix_x.htm
So much for a "Free Press" yet again, a staged news conference, how pathetic. Once again Bush shows he has no regard for the Constitution or the people of America.

It's BBQ time:eek: *grabs a fire extinguisher and some burgers*
Maybe I'm just slow (I am a right-wing Neanderthal, after all), but how is throwing some structure into a press conference stifling freedom of the press? Are they not still able to write what they want? Are the ones called upon still not able to ask the questions they'd like (and there were very few "friendly" questions in that press conference)? Sheesh. Y'know, when the New York Times (the world's most expensive college newspaper) and the Washington Post and the L.A. Times start spewing the Bush line in their op-ed pages (which should be around the time that the Cubs win the World Series), I might grant you something. But until then, "I honestly think you need to sit down calmly, take a stress pill and think things over."

Simply put, if that kind of "structure" was what our forefathers wanted, they'd have written it into the Constitution.
Scripted questions and answers isn't a press conference, it's a charade. No matter, how "friendly" the question were or were not, there's no point in staging a live press conference, if you're going to use canned answers. It leaves me (and hopefully many others) wondering, what is he hiding?
Unfortunately, now is not the time to sit back an be calm, now is the time to stand up and be angry, angry at a President who mocks the Constitution, is rushing America into a war, that will only serve to get thousands killed and in no way will enhance our security, who's taunted our Allies, who absolved us from the ICC, broken treaties, dear God I can list his sins down the page and he's only been in office 2 years! The man is a screw up!

There's a lot that's not in the Constitution. The "right" to abortion, for example. It's a framework. I repeat what I said before, THE PRESS IS STILL FREE.

The White House DID NOT give the reporters the questions that they were supposed to ask. The answers may have been canned, but since when is that new? Canned responses are certainly better than out-and-out lies, which is what we got from the previous administration.

OK, take a deep breath....WE ARE NOT RUSHING TO WAR. Since when does 12+ years of dawdling in the U.N. amount to a RUSH TO WAR? If we were RUSHING TO WAR we would have occupied the entire Middle East on 12 September 2001, then moved on to Asia and Africa. If we were RUSHING TO WAR we'd take out every dictator and tyrant in the world.
Wanna talk about broken treaties? How about Iraq and all the U.N. "resolutions"? How about North Korea and the U.S. framework agreement? The philosophy of the ICC and various other treaties (Kyoto, etc.) is not to improve the quality of life in other countries, it is to handicap the U.S. so that we are no longer the pinnacle of power. Thanks, but no thanks.

Right, care to buy a bridge? btw, the "right" to abortion is guaranteed under your "right" to privacy, basically the governments doesn't reserve the rights to your organs.

How the H3ll can you say that?! How can you script answers to questions you don't know!? Face it, Bush is screwing the pooch hardcore on this whole war thing.

Actually for 12 of those years were ignoring him, us AND the rest of the world. Bush has only wanted to go to war since August and for what? The reasons change daily.

Korea's a whole different issue, as they are an actual threat that Bush has no idea how to deal with, compared to Iraq. which he can just plow.
Give some examples of how those treaties, in some way diminish our power, or don't improve the quality of life for others, I'd love to see them. And if we're using our "power" outside of international law, then maybe we're doing something wrong. .

are liberals always looking for some conspiracy?
WTF are you punks smoking? THere's nothing in either linked report to say feedom of press is being stifled.
serialdave pretty well explained it in his post so I won't bother to say much other than you can't have unauthorized journalists in war zones reporting on anything they want. ESPECIALLY today when you can get a live shot from anywhere on the globe with portable satellites. Giving away what we are doing and where can be deadly to our troops, you want to see them get killed by what the independent reporter reports? I guess so by your comments...

In a word... Yes
Not all of course, but the most hardcore base their polotics around it. 1stFlight strikes me as the kind of guy who thinks that bush choking on a pretzel breaks the constitution because it has not been implictley allowed by it.
Really, seriously a structure to how questions are going to be asked... there are bigger crimes in the world!!!

:p Whatever on the preztel's, yes there are bigger crimes and so far Bush is commiting a lot of them.
I feel for whoever takes his place in 2005, cause they're going to have a big mess to clean up.
Get over this "structure", thing. That's a farce, they've have "unstructured", real press conferences all the time. Why can't Bush just be candid? Is he incapable, or something? Figure this is the guy we send out to represent us across the world, if he can't speak to the American people honestly, there's a problem.
And the first person that mentions, "well Clinton lied" needs help. There's a chasm between lying about who gave you head, and waging a war were our soldiers may get killed or injured. If you can't see that, then you need help.
Oh and Matthyahuw, I solved that problem earlier, just record don't broadcast. Military journalists do the same thing.

lol, look at your news sources roflmao! those are worse than FOX or CNN! We're just telling them we can't ensure their security, not like we are gonna try and kill them lol. Just use burst transmissions to minimize the possibility of being targeted by a bomb rofl:D
EDIT: Anyone remember the reporter who was taking a picture during live military exercises in Kuwait and didn't see that he got in front of a tank? SPLAT!:barf:

Some dude coming in of the beach in africa, or live night vision shots from Iraq with missiles all over, and they do the same in Israel last time there was a semi-major skirmish, news ppl can't be trusted...

I think that point is further illustrated by the fact that American news reporters are receiving training from the military for what to do in those situations you outlined.

I saw that. Seeing alot of them failing to even do one pushup is such a pitiful sight.
Very sad, if these news outlets are gonna be sending these people over to the warzone, they should at least send people that are physically capable of keeping up with our soldiers.
These flabby guys they are gonna send over are gonna slow our guys down. They should have to score well on a PFT in order to even be considered for that assignment.

The flabby guys are going to get left. I doubt a company c.o. is going to tell his troops to make sure the journalists are safe. It's a war zone, they know the risks.

There isn't anything in the constitution about schooling but we have public schools. I don't know what that has to do with the price of beans in Columbia but it makes about as much sense as the quoted statement. :p
I've been sitting here for the past 5 minutes watching the Users Browsing this Forum list while 1stFlight whips up his reply. :p
