Well I'm back to XP for now. As a gamer Vista's (drivers) is (are) not ready yet. There to many things missing:

-sometimes much slower (Oblivion, R6, SCDA) and Gothic3 decided to quit working;
-no EAX;
-damn 60hz bug is present, is it that difficult to implement this?!
-crappy v-sync;
-constant HD activity due things I don't need and don't want to take place when I'm gaming.

Use the correct monitor driver, and force the desktop refresh - I have no problems, it always changes to 75Hz in game for me.

So #3 isn't an issue anymore. Check to see if it's using default monitor driver or seeing it correctly.

Um I thought ALchemy was supposed to fix that? Whenever I have sound enabled at the moment my fps is much worse than having sound disabled due to it all being software rendered in games that arent OpenAL with my Audigy. I was considering upgrading to X-Fi just so I can get proper hardware accelerated sound with 5.1 and EAX and no CPU strain... but now I'm not so sure?

Can anyone clarify?

I tried a couple of games under Vista this past weekend. First I played COD2...everything worked fine except for AA. I'd get a white screen whenever I tried using AA (I see this was discussed elsewhere too). Otherwise, it ran smooth and fast under Vista at 1900x1200.

Then I installed Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Well, this didn't work well. Whenever I tried running HDR my characters would have that crzy geometry effect and so did some of the shadows. With HDR off, the characters looked ok, but some of the shadows still had a lot of corruption. Basically it was not playable. On top of that, the Creative Alchemy thing never detected SC-DA so I could not get EAX to work. So, gaming with Vista is hit and miss.

When 4xAA is set in COD2, you get the white/grey screen. This doesn't happen with 2xAA. Just set AA to 2x within the game, and enhance the application using the Nvidia control panel. Voila, 4xAA or higher. :)

Hey, im new here but i recently have a Win vista machine with a 8800GTX. My old machine also now runs vista with a X1600 ati card. When ever i try to run splinter cell DA i get wierd things hapening. On my old machine with the X1600 all works well only the game is a bit slow. Who to blame Nvidia or Ubisoft??? or both. I use the latest drivers from NVIDIA 100.59 and the latest patches for the game.

Guys make sure to run the latest DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en) installer; it makes a huge difference in gaming performance. Downloaded about 16mb on a clean install

Hi guys!
I'm using Vista x64 and 8800GTX.
At the moment I'm going on using XP for games.
While testing Vista, I experience three problems: first, sometimes the video driver restarts, even using just windows media player; second, nvidia control panel takes centuries to load; third, it's impossible to put computer into sleep state because it can't resume.

Are you experiencing the same issues with x64?

Is it just me or is vsync stuck on with supreme commander? forced off in profile and in global but still max 60fps, and it drops down to 30fps allot for not real reason.. the beta ran allot better then this under XP.

second, nvidia control panel takes centuries to loadI've got this one and already reported it on NVIDIA's bug thread. It seemed to start after I'd installed nTune (which messes with the control panel) but didn't go away when I uninstalled it later.

Coupled with the driver's refusal to remember color correction settings, means I have to stare at an awesomely bright screen for a minute on ever startup. :rolleyes:

Galactic Civilization II crashes with a "Unable to flip to Primary Buffer" error. Apparently, Stardock says its related to the Nvidia driver. Nvidia is also aware of this and working on it.

Hi all, I decided to go with 32bit home premium.

Doom 3 runs and looks fantastic, but radient just gives blank fields, no camera or grids show. Timedemo gives around 50FPS average.

FEAR - 2XAA, 4XAF, shadows max, ss off, vsync on 25/30/59. In XP I get 39/48/61 same settings. IQ is fair to good.

FEARXP - same settings as FEAR with similar performance but shadows are corrupt, game is unplayable.

Interesting though, I can confirm triple buffering through Rivatuner 2.0final for D3D.

FearXP, vsync on with no D3DOverrider.

And with D3DOverrider enabled

I have a similar problem with my 8800GTX on Vista 32-bit. It never comes out of sleep mode. Hopefully it can be resolved with a driver update.

mine worked fine in 32-bit Vista though. I just wiped out my drives to install Vista 64-bit.
