View Full Version : XFX 7600GT AGP: quality crapshoot?

Hi, I'm just wondering if a "good deal" on an XFX 7600GT AGP is really a good deal? No rebates involved, in this equation, just the quality of the card. I've heard horrible, terrible things about their 6xxx-series cards. Have they cleaned up their act?

Thanks

Not sure but be careful. I tried buying my parents a 3DFuzion (BFG) budget card for their new computer and it was a piece of junk. Crappy video quality via standard monitor cable and fan sounded like hell. Though I might have just got a bad card so traded it for a new one and same thing. Finally bought a much more expensive PNY.

7600 GT is a good card. I use to have one, tho the pci-e version.
It's not a budget card, its a mid end gaming card.

I think its sliding to budget now. they go for what, $100?

It depends. Without rebates I think the lowest I've seen XFX cards is about $119. I'm not sure about AGP.

About ~$180 for AGP.

If you can point me at a PCI-E one for $100, I'd consider hopping the fence!

It's not the 7600GT part that worries me; I've decided it's the right card for my budget (modest at best), needs (casual gamer presently struggling along with a 5900 that can't even manage 2x antialising at playable framerates) and system (Athlon64 3200+, Abit AV8 AGP board, old 350W PSU).

It's the XFX part, seeing as it's only they and Leadtek who offer the card for AGP in the US (Gainward, I know, does in Europe), and the XFX appears better cooled and comes mildly OC'd from the factory.

Well if we pretend for a minute 8800's doesn't exist.

That would give you 7900 for high end, 7600 for medium and anything below it low.

But as 8800's are still new and out of a lot of peoples price range. I wouldn't consider the 7600 a budget card yet. May be cheap but not "budget" status :)

It still runs most of the games fine.

I guess its all a relative scale. I shouldn't be talking since I'm still using my 6800GT AGP (hey, i got it when it was considered very high end! lol)

Yea, I would consider jumping to PCIe.. I'd even consider waiting a bit longer, if you can (yea, you can end up waiting forever) to see what happens when Nvidia bring outs their new other cards. Thats what I'm personally doing.

just looking at Newegg, EVGA sells a 7600gt for $110 with a $15 rebate = $95.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Brand=1402&N=50001402&Submit=ENE&Manufactory=1402&Description=7600gt&Ntk=all

If you can spend just a bit more, you'd be surprised how cheap the other 7 series have dropped to.. Just a glance, the EVGA 7900GS on Newegg goes for $170 - $15..

I think it is another case of who is lucky/unlucky. I had 1 friends 6800GT go bad, and it could have been because of the NV5 we put on it. The fan on that guy was starting to have problems. I put XFX in all of my friends pcs, and other than that one, no problems here. That's over 1/2 dozen cards. (Ti4200, 5200, 5600, 6800GT x 3, 8800gtx).

LoL .. same here and still using it OC'ed. But you know what.. with a good OC that card is still no slouch. I still play all my games with full graphics and AF/AA, granted only at 1280x1024 but thats still a pretty nice resolution IMO. ****... im still on an OC'ed 32bit CPU .. lol. I plan on upgrading soon but I bet I could still go longer untill the new generation games (Crysis, UT2k7.. etc) come out. ;)
