Qarl has released the final version of his TPIII, with some some improvements over the beta release. It can be found here:

This guy does amazing work - be warned that it takes some hefty hardware to run this.

Not yet, Qarl says he wants to control where its hosted so he can make changes easier, if needed. He did mention he was going to have it hosted at Elricm.com at some point.

Here is the thread he posts at:

I'm downloading it now, and it's only 850MB, the 2GB on that page must be an error. :)

 ... maybe 2GB after extraction ?

warning

it looks like the fileplanet mirror uploads are not finished, my 852MB file was corrupt (UK mirror), but the east/west coast servers appear to have 1.67GB.

Fairly easy to set up - once you extract the files you simply overwrite the same ones in the Oblivion/Data folder. There is no mod to install - this simply overwrites existing textures with ultra-sexy versions. The supplied readme should be pretty straightforward. I am only at 50% right now so I will probably have to install this when I get up.

I used an early version of this and it looked great, this looks even better. :)

Here are the comparison shots. They are animated gifs (the ones on the Planet Elder Scrolls page don't work):

It doesn't overwrite any of the originals though. Almost all of Oblivion's resources are packed in .BSA files.

I'm a bit surprised that he hasn't made an .OMOD version of this though considering how many files it replaces. If you have any previously installed texture or model packs this will overwrite any similar files. If you don't have anything like that though, its a quick and easy install and delete if you decide you don't want it.

Gonna install his LOD normal maps and CapnKILL's LOD textures after this I think.

WOW they look stunning - I would love to try them, but my 7600gt would say (if it could talk) 'your having a laugh'.

So what is a realistic minimum for this mod?..

A 512Mb video card would be a minimum IMO.

I don't know how well it'd run with less, but I'm guessing somewhere between "unplayable" and "not too good". :p

These textures MURDERED my framerate big time. It actually cut it in half outdoors but its fine indoors. Of course those with the fancy 8800 cards shouldn't have an issue.

I dont know, I think my framerate took a hit as well...

Fileplanet has 2 public servers on the west coast hosting this mod. I'm downloading @ 750kbs at the moment. :)

Hopefully my 7900GTX can hold it own with this texture pack. I only have the LOD texture mod installed.

I'll post if my video card decides to commit seppuku while running this texture pack. :p

ZOMG! They look good.

So if I have already downloaded a heap of texture packs, can I just apply these over the top? It'll just overwrite the mods of 'lesser' quality?

For the most part, yes. But read the readme file first. It mentions that some previous texture packs that used parallax maps had some meshes that didn't need to be there and actually cause some glitches. You'll probably want to delete the folders it mentions before installing the new pack.

That said, be warned... it definitely hurt my framerate going from the previous Qarl texture pack with parallax mapping.

Have no phear! I have an XFX!

It's at least equal to or about the same performance as your eVGA.

Downloading now... this thing is friggin huge... btw... can anybody point me in the direction of a decent mod for facial textures? I found one that looked pretty nice... but can't get the download to work (is corrupted)... I am going to replay through Oblivion again, but I can't stand the default faces at all.

How bad is it ?? if 1600x1200,2xAA,HDR,16xAF is still smooth then i'm all for it!!

I don't know. I can't really say for sure since I can't easily revert back to the originals. This game is so hit or miss performance-wise that it can be really hard to tell when something really is slowing the game down more than normal.

Definitely felt slower after installing these though. Especially in the imperial city, which is strange since thats usually CPU limited... could have just been because of all of the people walking around though.

... damn I need a core 2. :p

BTW, I play at 1600x1200 with 16xAF and no AA and it really isnt "smooth" most of the time anyway. Almost a year later this game is still kicking our computers' asses. Of course so does Morrowind... :p

Hopefully they use a different game engine next time.
