I'm installing windows on a new harddrive in my bosses computer. But during the windows setup file copying process it constantly tells me that it can't copy a variety of files. Everytime I try it's a different file. The error message says it might be the WinXP CD but I've tried three different CDs, three different CD drives and a DVD drive and another IDE cable.

Is it that the new harddrive my be faulty or is it the RAM?

Most likely the RAM. XP setup is extremely picky with RAM.

I've seen an XP install error over and over and over running error free (tested with memtest) name brand memory, but install fine on a flaky stick of generic crap.

If you have another stick to toss in just until setup is finished it'll most likely work fine.

Yep, it was the RAM.

Thanks
