Installing the latest 8800 drivers seems to have made the fog about 10x worse in Dark Messiah.

Any fix for this yet?

Not sure if valve released an official fix yet or not. Here's a thread on it:

Yeah I have the same problem. The fog is just horrible and unplayable.

Valves solution in CSS was to increase the distance of distance fog so that it wouldn't appear on maps with close distance issues..... :thumbdwn: Problem is in larger maps the issue still occurs and of course it occurs in HL2 and Dark Messiah since the level itself is larger. If all Valve is gonna do is increase the distance of distance fog to the point where it can not be seen is not really a fix...

Apparently this problem does not occur in Vista. The game code certainly isn't any different, so that leaves either the Vista driver or Vista's implementation of DX9.

The Vista driver seems more likely to be the source of the fix than Vista's DX9 (which theorhetically should be functionally similar to XP's), so maybe the new XP drivers will have a fix.

Do you happen to know the command or how to change this fog distance setting?

Valve automatically has done it, there is no command. There is a command to remove Distance Fog entirely but its considered a cheat and does not work on servers that are VAC secure.

Installed Vista RTM last night and the issue does not occur. Definatley an XP driver bug.

I hate to play the conspiracy card but this simple bug has taken an awfuly long time to cure. I'm sure ATI isn't complaining. Wonder if they're still in bed... :\

Anybody running this game under Vista x64? Everytime I exit the game it crashes with the message "mm.exe has stopped responding". This is with 100.59 drivers.
