Hi!

Today four Dell Precision 340 workstations arrived all equipped equally (P4, 512MB RAM, nVidia GeForce2 MXR with 32MB RAM).

On all three machines it was no problem getting the latest nVidia driver (1.0.4191) to work using the Debian packages nvidia-glx-src and nvidia-kernel-src. 3D Framerates are very nice and 2D seems also to work fast.

But after a while something really weird happens when running KDE 2.2: The window title bar displays icons from the task bar and sometimes there are even images in the background that konqueror had rendered in its window. Only an Xserver (4.1.0) restart or using the software only "nv"-driver solves this problem.

It looks like parts of the screen are remapped to other parts.

Does anybody has seen something similar?

I made a screenshot of that weird behaviour, please see the attached image.

As you can see, parts of the windows' contents are mapped into the background image. And the really weird thing is that the clock (above the konsole window) is working and shows the current time.

This does not affect performance (2D or 3D), it's only very annoying. The software only "nv" driver does work flawlessly.

Another reply to myself. ;-)

The solution is to add the Option

Option "UBB" "false"

to the Device section of XF86Config-4.

This switches off shared buffer usage of windows.
