View Full Version : EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS SLI Review
Question. What's better than a single GeForce 8800 GTS? Why two of them of course!
Having purchased an EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS off the shelf a couple of months ago, we recently approached EVGA and asked if they would be willing to chip in another card for an SLI review.

EVGA delivered and we shipped the goods to Kyle Kerley to review. Kyle then proceeded to step it up up a few notches when he sprung for a 30-inch Dell monitor!
A couple of weeks ago we witnessed the GeForce 8800 GTX in SLI delivering the performance to conquer the uber-resolution of 2560x1600. Is the EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS in SLI up for the challenge? Read on to find out!

Nice review Kyle! Looks like you're enjoying the new hardware. :)

I'd bet it is. I'm running two of those myself, and I can play pretty much any game at 1920x1440 with 16xAA no sweat. Then again, 2560x1600 is a bit higher res than 1920x1440. ;)
Great review! :D I'm actually contemplating getting another rig with dual GTXs. Not sure if I'll do that as these GTSs are fast enough at 1920x1440. :D

I dunno...different drivers? Faster CPU?

no, same cpu.. I doubt drivers would make that much of a difference?
My friend got 9800 on a single 8800GTS with an E6300 @ 2.7ghz.. And the card slightly overclocked.
Great review. I can't wait to get my eVGA 8800GTS ACS3!

Dude...your card is 160MHz/400MHz faster than mine...I'm not surprised in the least you got a higher score than me. :o

You will NOT be disappointed. :D

I'm so excited! If everything goes well, I'll be able to order it Monday morning, if not, it'll be the end of the week. Either way, next week sometime I can put the order in for it. Is it worth getting the KO ACS3 version (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2824835) over a regular version?

The ACS3 version of the GTX ran about 5-7 degrees cooler than a reference model when I tested them seperately. The ACS3 was also quieter as the enclosure muffles the fan noise.
Plus, it just looks cool and has EVGA stamped on the side :)

You know, for my next build- I just might go dual ACS3 GTXs. Why not? :p

Great review Kyle.....I'm gonna get another 8800gts, but first I am planning on getting a bigger monitor. Don't get me wrong, I like my westy 22", but I think I will love the Dell or Gateway 24" more.
Great review Kyle  .. thats a sexy looking card & nice performance.
i would've liked to see how it stacks up againest a single o/ced 8800GTX though.

Two GTSs would smoke a single GTX. That should be a given. :p Now, two highly oc'd GTXs would be lightyears ahead of the two heavily oc'd GTSs.
I'm actually contemplating going dual GTXs my self. I need to find a way to make more money first. :p

I know , but considering that not all games scale the same with SLI i liked to see some numbers.
also GTS SLI would beat a single GTX thats for sure but i wont call it "smoke" .. the percentage wont be that large if the GTX was oc/ed.

I think you'd probably be surprised. And that is just from me comparing the fps I get to people with their single GTXs.
The GTX is faster than the GTSs, but not enought to compete with them in SLi. There are situations where I've seen over a 100% increase in performance with SLi, not many but I have seen it.
You have a single GTX, right? Let's compare 'em! :p

I'm using a 19" CRT- my maximal resolution is 1920x1440. :p
OC that GTX and let's compare!
You will have an advantage- as I'm using a s754 3400 and you have that X2 4400. But I'm not sure it'd make that huge a difference.
Wanna' compare?

Oh, I should also mention that I'm running 2GB DDR500 @ DDR500, with the CPU multiplier set to 10 (from 12)- so it is slightly oc'd at 2.5GHz (stock being 2.4). But still with your CPU you should still have a bit of an advantage.
I'm all for comparin'. I paid $900 for both of these and I want to be sure that some $700 card aint gonna' be too close to them in terms of performance.
Let's compare! :p :D
