View Full Version : North Korea Question

I was wondering what everyone thinks of North Korea seeing as though
1) They possess WMD's
2) They torture and enslave their people (even today)
3) They have actually sold their weapons abroad
4) Is ruled by a brutal tyrant
If Iraq is a war all about liberation, what about the North Koreans, don't they deserve some liberation too?

The North Korea situation needs dealing with straight away, I saw a report on the place. Its scary how brain washed the people are there.

The thing you fail to realize in that nukes make the battlefeild equal. For all its might a country with nuclear weapons can say this. "If you invade my country I will launch my nukes." And there is nothing that can currently even come close to shooting a nuke down. THIS is the ONE of the many reasons we are taking Saddam out of power. So he can't pull this **** becuase he will if he gets nukes.
Edit: Whoops yes NK is a threat and should be dealth with.

The problem is we already know he doesn't have nukes, or that capacity to make any. They're fairly complicated devices and they tend to give off detectable radiation. So if the UN doesn't think they're there. I don't think they're there.
From where I stand, this whole situation looks like ..
There's a guy with a gun to your face demanding your wallet, and you're busy wondering if the guy a block away is armed.
edit: oh yeah, Iran is closer than Saddam to having nukes, they're saying 2005 or sooner.

I've heard of that too, they even expelled the weapons inspectors like North Korea and Iraq lol. Axis of Evil anyone?:p
It's all about oil. America just wants to control the oil supply. Even my AP Economics teacher said it.

Very strange how some countries are just discovering nukes when we put one together over 60 years ago.
On a side note, how close was Germany to really building an atomic bomb during World War 2? I've heard a various things, nothing really concrete.

Good point, what I wonder is why more countries don't go after atomic bombs, they're easier to make.
For the Germany bit, they were very close, we pretty much stole their scientists and made them a better offer... life.

The story on Germany is quite an ironic one, it seems they were rather bitten in the ass by their penchant for killing people of certain groups; as some of the most essential scientists on the Manhattan Project *cough* Albert Einstein *cough* were convinced to move to the US to escape persecution. Without its most brilliant scientists, Germany was still a decent distance away from developing nuclear weapons.
That is also the main reason other countries are just "discovering" nukes: it's a very complicated science to cause the chain reaction that leads to fission (or fusion in modern higher-tech weapons). After all not just any schoolboy knows what a proton accelerator is and how to operate one, much less how to arrange the TNT around the core in a correct fashion so as to create fission.
We had some of the most brilliant physicists in the world in our nuclear weapons program, that's a luxury most other countries don't have.
As for the main topic, I used to think NK was just screwing with us, but I now think they're a very eminent threat (much moreso than Iraq).

The only catch is, last time anyone said that, the Korean War started....

But the first time around we were the only one with the nuclear weapons.
Who is this Kim chick and why is she such a rag? Can't we just ship a container of Miodol over there and a box of bon bons?

hmmmm....
howz about you try robert oppenheimer for size ? :)
also note that many of the KEY scientists (chemists / physicists / mathematicians / electronics experts et al) were NOT americans... well not of american descent... quite a few were asians... namely from the countries that have been facing sanctions and other deterents in recent years (india/ pakistan)
note that only 1 country has EVER used an atomic device... and did so on 2 occasions...
now coming to the actual worknig of a nuclear device... it is not difficult to manufacture a crude nuclear device as many websites will attest to... the difficulty is in the radioactive (weapons grade) material needed...
the fact is that NK does have the capability to produce a crude nuclear device... and could use that to threaten the countries of south korea/japan and taiwan...
why care about that you say ? they are allies... and therefore must be protected... for precedence as to the causes of war... you can have a look back @ the actions in saguntum and the non-action of the romans and the initial rise of the carthaginians... the eventual outcome may not be duplicated... but who knows...
whether there is an active quid pro quo concerning war/cease fire in NK/SK... I have no idea... am not privy and can't be bothered to research that... but yes.... NK is a very real threat and the situation needs very careful monitoring... bush perhaps would be wise not to blind himself solely on destroying saddam... a far LESS formidable threat than Kim...
Post edited, we don't need that kind of flamebait

Einstein was not on the Manhattan Project but your point is correct, many of the manhattan scientists were Jews. It would have been the ultimate irony if the USA dropped the first atomic bombs on Germany instead of Japan.

That's exactly what I said. Many of our scientists were actually German Jews who fled Hitler's regime.

Correction: dirty bombs are easy to make; fission/fusion bombs are not. Recall it took some of the most brilliant physicists in the world to figure how fission worked, it's not that easy.

a dirty bomb with radioactive elements in it is not really a small matter... :)
its a small scale WMD... designed more for terror than anything else... but would suceed well in its intents and purposes...
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,182637,00.html
hence you see my point... and you see that a NUCLEAR BOMB and a DIRTY BOMB are explained in a straightforward manner...
AFAIK... there was 1 major jewish presence... oppenheimer... and even he was not well liked after the bomb dropped... his security privelages being revoked and what not....
no doubt there were other's who also were jewish on the engineering teams... but for the most part they appear to be of european and asian descent...

just to clear some stuff up, you have to be totally lost if you think that north korea isnt being 'dealt with'
dont you realize what would happen if any plans to attack n korea were known to them? they already said theyd launch a first strike, we cant be fooled by thinking nothing will happen, it will happen, it will happen so fast and so suddenly, it will take the world by surprise
because that is the only way.
