Grr I can't wait any longer, If I made the wrong decision buying the Radeon 9500 Pro I could smack myself.

I was sure this card would be faster than the 9600 Pro but I dunno. Grr hurry up with benches

I hear ya ChrisRay. ATI "launched" the r9600 3 weeks ago and i'm still waiting for benchmarks

the more I hear the more it sounds like the r9500Pro is faster :( which means all this waiting has been in vain, I don't see r9500Pro prices dropping at all

the bench i saw the 9600 end losing for only a few fps (it was still faster than the 5600) i heard ati will stop selling 9500s the profit is very little with those cards..so i would stick with the 9500....

Don't you people trust my benchies? :)

Sure, I can understand wanting it to be compared on exactly the same setup and on the final driver revision, but I doubt there'd be a huge difference.

Uttar

i want a comprehensive comparison between the r9500Pro and r9600Pro at all settings.

If xbitlabs is right (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20030327061247.html) then you may have to wait a while.

you got it all wrong, it's he who gets never wants- because they already have everything :p

Well the more I look at things develop more I see that I made the right choice, But I had judging a product before I can see it.

I simply don't think the rv350 will offer the bandwith to makes its extra GPU fill rate relevent.

Even in such situations, Even with the higher clock rates is fill rate in single texturing and Multi texturing is way below the Radoen 9500 Pro

I think I am begining to rest comfortably in my buying decision, Either ATI has somethen to hide with this card or TSMC just can't deliver (big surprise)

I believe that reviews will show up tomorrow.
I dont think that ATi has anything to hide, rather something to surprise.

Depending on the game/situation I think the 9600Pro will be just as fast in most scenarios as the 9500Pro.

guess that I should supply the quote
K.Y. Ho, chairman and CEO of ATI, is scheduled to meet with both TSMC and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) executives when he arrives in Taipei on a scheduled trip next week, sources said.

Ho will unveil the company’s new line of graphics chips – the R350, RV350, RV280, Mobility Radeon 9600 and Mobility Radeon 7000 IGP – on Tuesday. ATI, a graphics chip designer, uses both TSMC and UMC as contract manufacturers for its chips.

All of ATI’s 0.13-micron chips and most of its 0.15-micron chips are manufactured at TSMC, although the company has begun to manufacture some of its RV280 graphics chips on UMC’s 0.15-micron process.

well that is no surprise seeing as how the r9500Pro has more fillrate than the r9600Pro.

r9500Pro = 275 X 8 pipelines
r9600Pro = 400 X 4 pipelines

the r9600Pro should have the bandwidth advantage, and from what i've heard it seems like the r9600Pro also has the superior memory controller.

well, if reviews come out tomorrow the waiting is finally over(unless the r9600Pro is better and I have to wait for one :p )

The biggest problem is even with the higher core, The Fill Rate is way behind :|

I think it would ne a 650+ Core to equal out to a Radeon 9500 Pros Single Texturing and Multi Texturing Fill Rate,

The bandwith controller might be useful. But I have a feeling the 9600 Pro will only be faster in the highest resolutions..

If thats the case.

We'll see. I still don't have much faith in this card from what I keep hearing about and ATI's refusal to do benches.

No; "only" an 450MHz Core

450 MHz x 4 = 1800MPixel/sec

if you look at the 32bit fillrate's for the R9500Pro, then you see that the single-texturing fillrate is only around 950MPixel due to bandwidth limitations. Even the Multitexturing fillrate is only slightly above 1900Mpixel. IMHO due to the inefficient 128bit memory interface (cut back from an 256bit interface). So the memory interface is only ~85% efficient.

The R9000 on the other side is able to use up to ~95% of the bandwidth when multitexturing is used. Theoretical fillrate : 1100MPixel. Fillrate (tested with 3DMark0x) ~1050MPixel.

So 450MPixel x 4 x 95% = ~1700 MPixel.

So 450MHz would be enough to have nearly the same effective fillrate as an R9500Pro. On the other side the R9600Pro has more bandwidth ( 300MHz <-> 275MHz ) and an better memory controller ( up to 8:1 compression instead of up to 6:1 compression ).
IMHO due to this an R9600Pro with an 450MHz Core would be faster than the R9500Pro.

Hmm I get about 1000 Single Texture Fill Rate and 2200 Multi Texture fill rate.

I think thats pretty respectable. The 9700 Pro doesn't do a whole lot better.
