Vista codec pack, got any?

Any of you guys manage to get any vista codec packs to work? I can't seem to play AVI files right now. I've tried two codec pack so far and they just lock up media center. Which by the way I'm liking a lot so far especially with the voice recognition.

I installed Klite Codec Pack 2.81 Basic, works properly...

I can get music to play in media player classic but not in media player. I have installed the vista codec floating about the net. I wonder whats up.

I installed KL codec standard pack in Vista x64 works properly.

ffdshow works, do you really need any other codec packs?

those that say that it works, do you get thumbnails in expoloer?

I get thumbnails with ffdshow, works great. Only complaint is that ffdshow puts these icons in the system tray whenever you're doing anything that uses the codecs. I don't think the older versions did that.

I've been using just ffdshow for the last couple of months on vista, it works excellently. :)

Codec packs usually cause a mass of conflicts, installing dozens of codecs at once. ffdshow is good in that it's one-codec-for-all-formats, and doesn't cause a mess if you ever uninstall it.

to get rid of the tray icons, go to your start menu - ffdshow - audio decoder properties - tray, dialog, and paths - show tray icon. Repeat for video decoder properties. :)

i figured it out

on vista ultimate 64bit its different.

Media Center is 64bit, explorer is 64bit, defualt Media Player is 32bit.

you need two codecs, right now i'm using 64bit ffdshow for media center and explorer, and 32bit ffdshow for media player. everything works now.

KazaaLite Codec pack seemed to install for me.

I installed the K-lite Codec Pack 2.81 Full last night. AVI files play fine now but I do not get thumbnails. Everything ells looks good.

You have 64bit vista?

if so google for ffdshow64bit you will get thumbnails then

Nope I'm running 32bit for now.
