Best i can come up with is Avast 4 server edition where you get 60 days for free (www.avast.com).

AVG is by far my favorite.

I'd be looking for a free server to replace Server 2003 that doesn't require Antivirus.

AVG or ClamAV are what I'd use if I were a button-monkey.

I'm running AntiVir Personal Edtion Classic on my server. Even though it's not "offically" supported it will install and run.

AVG does NOT have a free version for Servers.

So what would you run for Server software that doesn't need Anti-Virus software? Linux? No there's virus' that attack that. Free BSD? No virus hit that one too. A Mac? No, nobody's that stupid.

Maybe a chalkboard with colored chalk?

AVG does NOT have a free version for Servers.

They do but it's only active for 30 days and they have to send you a serial number (for free) via e-mail.

If you are looking for a good antivirus software I recommend you to check this list (http://www.best-antivirus.co/) of the best security software nowadays. You should read the reviews and then decide which one to use. All from that list are very professional.

DONT use Trend Micro. Worst AV ever. Good luck getting a free "server" AV. You might as well use MSE.

You can find a lot of those software packages for sale on this software site I sometimes buy things from:

http://buycheapsoftware.com/

It's cheap and effective and guaranteed not pirated materials.

Microsoft Security Essentials is free, works as well or better than any, and has a tiny footprint to boot.

MSE doesn't work on Windows Server 2008 R2.

What (free) anti virus software are you guys running on R2?

---

Never mind. Got Forefront Security Client to update and it works on R2 and was available on Technet as well.

Server 2008 R2 fends off invaders with sheer awesomeness.

I'm going to setup a server to play with. Thinking of just installing SBS 2008, I think it has Forefront too no?

Not sure. But Forefront is a separate product. Not sure if it's integrated in SBS.

I just installed the Forefront Client Security Client on my server. None of the server side/management components.

Same here but this doesn't work on a Server OS. There was a workaround available but it's a no go with newer versions of MSE.
