The Iiyama has excellent reviews but the Samsung is widescreen and high resolution. Both are pretty much the same price. Bear in mind I only have a 7900GT and wont be upgrading for a while. I cant decide, hopefully you can.

yep, and get at least a 22", but 24 is the best, and for the king, get teh 30", but that depends on your budget, I got a Gateway FPD2185W and I love it, its good for me :)

Wide screen is a beautiful thing. Don't think I could go back. :)

Edit: If you do grab the 19" your card shouldn't have any problems with it. My brother just grabbed a samsung 205somethingsomething, 20" widescreen and his 6800GT has no problems with it.

I agree with what else has been said, get the wide screen you will never look back.

Really? The Iiyama is probably a better screen though for response, colour quality etc, also my card will probably struggle with the resolution of the WS in anything but old games. I'm afraid I may have to go for the 19", I really like the idea of widescreen but a 20" WS cant be that much different from a 19" normal can it?
Those are pretty much the best I can afford, so no 24" for me.

Yes, it really can. Go to any store that has both sizes, the difference is noticable, because of actual viewable area.

If I get the 20 inch monitor can I scale down the resolution to a level my card can cope with or does it go really blurry if its not at native resolution?

Native obviously looks best, but you can scale it if you like. My 24" doesn't look bad at all @ 1680x1050. But I don't see much (if any) performance gain from the lower rez. One thing I learned about monitor shopping though, what looks good to me may not be best for you, and you may love something I wouldn't get.

Be prepared to return it if your not happy with your choice, and try something else.

If the 205bw was sold local, I probably would have picked that monitor up in the first place. I got the 940bw, and I really liked that monitor. The advantages of the 20" are the adjustable stand, and higher res.

I now have a 2407, and my only gripe is that this monitor loves to tear because of its 16ms response time. I never had a problem with my Sammy.

I would imagine that monitor can scale down to 1440 x 900 and still look pretty good. You can do 4:3 resolutions, but they are stretched a little. I can't even think of a game where you can't fix it, unless it is really old. Even BF2 if you put in the custom res, it will make everything square, it just cuts off the top and bottom instead. I think you'll really like the WS, as it has many nice uses.

Which monitor do you have?
When you say "much (if any)", would you still say that text in the non-native mode still beats a CRT?

I ask because I'm looking to replace my aging 24" Sony beast CRT with a newer 24" LCD and would rather run 1600x1000 rather than the native 1920x1200 on my desktop, so I'm curious about text quality at non-native resolutions.
