Okay so it seems theres alot of trouble gameperformance on vista and alot of things that people think it is related to.

Till now i heard. GFX / RAM / Sound.

So which one is it, and is there anything to do about it? I mean, if it's sound related, i should be able to just run without sound and it should run fine, and we'd have found the problem right?

My rig is a: AsRock 939-Dual-Sata2 with 3700+ AMD64. My gfx is GeForce 6800 GT. 1024 mb ddr333.

Everyone worked fine on XP but its xtremely laggy and unplayable now.

I'd say your memory is probably giving you the biggest hit. Vista uses quite a bit more than XP, and some games are probably maxing out your 1gig.

Other than that, its hard to say what could be doing it exactly.

What games do you play and which ones are giving you the most performance problems?

Your memory is part of the problem. The other part is that damned motherboard. I thought the world of it at first, but it can't run RAM at half ass timings to save its life. You have to run at T2, DDR333, and memory compatibility mode on ram that's supposed to run at DDR400 T1.

I hate it!

Yeah, I hear ya. I think its driver issues for the board, honestly.

I have that board in my GF's rig and it did alright under XP. Under Vista its having some pretty bad networking issues. I read that the networking wouldn't run at all under the Beta's and not well under the RC's. The Uli chipset isn't very popular and is no longer being supported, so I'm not sure if things are going to get any better.

It might just be an Nvidia driver issue, as well. I'm leaning towards a bit of NV and a bit of Uli as the causes of your issues.

Along with the 1GB of Ram. I've seen benchmarks showing a massive drop between XP and Vista due to 1GB of ram being tapped out.

I'm using 4gb ram with nice performance.

yes, allot of performance issues is caused by sound, all people with x-fi and alchemy don't know, but just remove that x-fi, turn off alchemy and use audigy 2, or onboard, and you will start to cry
