also seems that Microsoft won't be releasing another version of DirectX until the next Windows (Longhorn)....2 years! lol.

muhahah he says it will obviously faster just because it has more memory muhahaahhah:rolleyes:

truth be told......more bandwidth does help A LOT!!

well sure, but adding memory does not add bandwith. :nono:

if the chip is designed to be 256 bit, then yes.

Looks like you've got your bits and bytes mixed up.

It will have 256 megabytes of ram on a 128 bit wide bus. If the ram is running at the same speed, the only way a 256 megabyte card will be faster than a 128 megabyte card is if a game needs more than 128 megabytes of memory for textures, etc. Otherwise, the only way it will be faster is if the ram is clocked higher than the 128 megabyte version.

But the reviews said the 1GHz DDR-2 memory already runs hot that it needs heat sinks

And if NV35 = GeForce FX Pro ??????

Isn't there lower voltage DDR-2 coming along later this year which will (presumably) run cooler?

i think nv's 'ultra' is always better than 'pro'..

I get the feeling the 256mb version is nothing more than a marketing ploy. Im sure in a about 2 years the games then will have a benefit from it.

But also, with PCI X and its awesome bandwith, will that be such a big deal?

They can put pink, purple, or green memory on it.
If it can't compete with the 9800's, they they may as well join the ranks of Matrox.
The review's tell all. We'll know.

But it dose compete with the 9800's infact very well ; (

now that the dust has settles a bit ,the gf fx is not a total loss ,i dont mean to say its up to the radeon standards cause judging from the reviews its not ! will 256 meg memory make a diference ?
i dont dont think that it'll be worth the extra bucks for the performance increase if any (we'll just have to wait and see on that one) ,well here we go another big year for graphics cards

I have to say, people wernt so fast to bash the 256mb radeon.....

im sure a big factor of what they are gonna make is "well is our competitor going to release it"

-----------------Edit

ok i take that back, the fastness of bashing was pritty equal.

id take a 256mb model if i was gonna buy it later and it was around 399$ due to prrice drops. mainly bragging rights but eh.

Now overclock them both.

The 9700p lost ALOT of ground, infact it lost it compeletly.

With more driver releases around the bend how much more ground is the 9800p going to lose?

if you read the review that i was quoteing from THG dose explane that if you dont happen to have a 3.06ghz pc your not gonna be running AA+AF.

Better yet, put a dustbuster on the ATI (to be fair, since both coolers would be comming off on My card), then overclock them.

As for the 256MB's being nessesary, probably not.

I was more or less pointing to his conclusion.
As for 3.06/ AA+AF, I am currently working towards a barton 3000+ in a Vapochill case. I hope to hit 3GHZ.
The 9800pro would be extra cooled + volt modded.
So not only am I looking for the best in current speeds, but I'm
also looking for the best overclocking potential.

.

Also isn't there some conspiracy theory concerning the
Det. 42.72 as showing false speed increases?.

Correct Me if this isn't true.

Duh.
I forgot to mention that Tom was benching with the 42.72's.

All I'm really trying to say at this point, is that I don't trust
nvidia. And are they really going to try putting out 256MB's on a
128bit bus, or will it be 256bit's?.
