"Action video game play changes the way our brains process visual information," says Daphne Bavelier, professor of brain and cognitive sciences at the University of Rochester. "After just 30 hours, players showed a substantial increase in the spatial resolution of their vision, meaning they could see figures like those on an eye chart more clearly, even when other symbols crowded in."

You aren't going to throw away those glasses/contacts, but at least you know that you can find Waldo faster than anyone else!

Yeah I found that immediately... is that what we're looking for?

Anyways, yes I've noticed over the years that gaming (especially first person shooters) has increased my eyes' ability to "catch" details even though I'm slowly getting crappier and crappier vision. :p

Yeah it is amazing how the brain adjusts to stimuli. FPS players have the ability to quickly analyze a give scene for "threat" objects. This is another reason why I think cultures who play more video games will have better soldiers.

Thats typical .. also i think AA/AF levels , high-res , textures quality & pixel-shaders play a role on this.
i spend some quite good deal of time in notcing the sharp edges to figure what level of AA is that , the difference between each texture quality settings & check the terrain filtering to make sure if AF is working or not :D

Yeah, I usually run my brain at 16xAF with 16xAA so things look pretty sharp.

I remember when I was little, I had this Waldo book where the last page had nothing but Waldo's in it. You had to find just one of them whose shoe was missing and he was walking around in a sock, and then you had to find his shoe. I remember it took me forever to finish that one.

I don't think he's in the picture. Its the same pic with the guy in yellow and gray. Thats the point, to make people continue playing until they get to the "scare". :p
