NV31/NV34 preview et al

Let me start by saying I like NVnews and their graphics/gaming system news coverage. However, I do not like the way those who run the site are so blatantly biased toward Nvidia. I never considered NVnews a fanboy site, but now I'm starting to. Recently, it always seems that you "miss" or magically overlook most reviews or stories that hold Nvidia in a bad light, and go out of your way to try and find dirt and anything bad about ATI. I used to think you guys better than that, but not anymore.

Case in point, your previews of the GeforceFX and most recently the in the works preview of the NV31/NV34 have nothing but praise for Nvidia's new "aggressive effects" mode. ATI had this when the 8500 came out, and you berated them and ragged on them for it, even though ATI seems to do it better, faster and with better image quality than Nvidia does today with the FX series. So, is there any explaination other than blatant fanboy-ism for this sudden change of heart? I thought you guys better than that. :nono:

The other newsposters and I work our ass off trying to find all the news out there related to nVidia good or bad. As for we directly go after stories that make Ati look bad, bah! dont make me frickin laugh:mad:

It's time consuming work, but did you know there are cases where the image quality found in NV31 Aggressive mode surpasses that of NV25 and NV31 Balanced mode and is closer to Application mode?

isn't that a good thing? any time you can find "secret" settings/combinations that can improve quality and speed over the "norm" then that's something non-trivial that should be pointed out.

i didn't see anything on the front page crowing about Aggressive and saying it was the Second Coming, just that the results can be surprising in some situations.

Mebbe you're just confused since I see this is your first post here, but nVnews has been EXTREMELY cool about their coverage of the FX fiasco.

If they wanna try and push some of the positive points of the new nVidia cards, power to them. nVidia could currently use all the help they could get, and if you ignore all the glaring problems they've been having I'm pretty sure at least some of these new cards should run some games pretty good. ;)

Please do a little research before you go making accusations, the one you're making doesn't hold any weight....IMHO.

I've been coming to this site several times a day for around 2 years, I'd say that's a more than "a little research".

I agree. However, when they push the positive points on a nvidia card and rag on the negative points of some other card, then do a total 180 when the nvidia card supports one of those features that they other card has, that's just total fanboyism.

Yeah don't laugh about those reviews on TomsHardware about the NV31/NV34 that you just "missed" yesterday, even though tomshardware is one of the most popular sites out there for hardware reviews and you guys usually post their stories within hours of them appearing. Don't go splitting your sides over that whole story about nvidia and 3dmark2003 that had nvidia making excuses and grasping for a reason to shun 3dmark2003, even though you posted a link to a review on TomsHardware the same day.

I still like your site and I still come here every day, but I know many people who don't anymore because they think you're too biased and have become a fanboy site. I'm just giving a bit of constructive criticism in the hopes that you improve your site, and what is your responce? "Mental retardation." I think that shows you need it.

Yeah, me too...but I think we visited differently. I damn near never even check the frontpage, I only go to the forums. I'm not saying they're not bright over there, I just don't think they're very honest. I think nVnews was right to take a pass on the Pabst.

For once I fully agree. I think the staff here has treated your input very discoureously and in a very juveneille and offense manner. Aside from it being wrong to be insulting, "mental retardation" is a disease and no fricking laughing matter to be bantered about in jest. :mad:

I've gotten slapped down a few times here for bad behaviour, it would sort of be nice if the staff practised a bit more of what they preach. :p

??? :confused: I've always considered Tom's Hardware one of the least sell-out-ish sites out there, as have most magazines I read. Can you tell me why you believe this and show me some proof? The only time I remember Tom's being even remotely accused of selling out was in favor of nvidia back when the Geforce 3 came out, and Maximum PC did an article on the GF 3 dispelling the rumors.

The fact is we are not lame fan boys who run around making up stories about how Ati eat babies. We have had so many of these threads and comments made that it is just getting stupid now. The vast majority of our readers like this place because we try to be non biased all the time. A small minority however will never be happy here and bitch and bitch about anything that is posted.
