Hello folks. :)
Just browsing the boards, and looking for some info. Didn't see it right off the bat, so I figure a post is OK.
Are there any plans for the new 8 series of nVidia cards to support AGP? I'm milking an AGP board right now, and hoping that the 8 series will help me do that for a little while longer. I've thought about moving up to a 7600gt from my current 6600gt, but have held off on the hopes that there'd be an 8 series AGP card on the way.

7900 GS may be your best bet, or the recently released x1900 ATI card (did that ever actually hit the street?).

save ur money and just switch to pcix it will be so much easier for you to upgrade in the long run.

nVidia is leaving this "scraps" market to AMD. Like the forward looking and innovative company it is, nVidia is wholly focussing on the PCI Express market.

Yep, its just not worth it any more.
I was pissed about AGP being left in the cold 2 years ago when it was still very common, but now its long gone. Its definitely time to move on to PCI-E.

QFT. Also, remember that AGP is only 2.2GB a sec, where PCI-E is 4.4GB a sec. There is now doubt that an 8800GTX would be bottlenecked now on an AGP interface. They can probably make lower model cards, but I doubt they'll make more on AGP.

I know I selling my AGP card to a friend and getting this one. My upgrade to 8800/8900 has gone back a few months

Yea I expect the X1950 AGP series will be the best AGP card for AGP from now on really. There will be AGP cards in the future much like the PCI ones that are still around but just very low spec budget cards.
Maybe in the future, but right now the the particular AGP card is the equivalent of the best ATI has to offer in PCI Express, and that is the amazing thing about it. 3 months ago, the best card (7800GS) was up to 4 times slower, ie Oblivion HDR.

I am curious to see how much bandwidth the 8800GTX pushes through the PCIe bus... might even be capped on a PCIe 8x slot.
AGP needs to die. I was annoyed as well with the move to pci express but I got over it and moved on. My upgrade path for video cards is no longer limited.

I can see nVidia marketing hatching a nice PR attack on AMD:
AMD: Holding back technology (AGP) and costing $$ in electricity (R600).
No offence, but some of you guys need to do a little research. At this phase the AGP version of i.e. 1950Pro does NOT hold back performance. It has the same performance as the PCI-x part. Maybe in the future, but not now.

If you ask me, this is a good move by NVidia. They could make a lot of money from the leagcy upgrade market with this.

Because this isn't supposed to happen. Former ATi has always played second fiddle to what nVidia has done in the past. Always coming in second and trying to copy what nVidia did. nVidia releases a card and former ATi is slow to come out of the gate. Now we have AMD with their X1950 PRO AGP 8x first and suddenly nVidia decides to respond with an AGP card.
In my opinion this takes away from what nVidia has been doing for the past 5 years, which is innovation and cutting edge. Spending resources on years old technology just to respond in kind so that their market share in the AGP segment doesn't drop to AMD doesn't make sense to me.
Sound like a board room meeting in the higher ups where they realized they suddenly had some leeway upon hearing R600 delays and then putting their efforts into taking away market share from AMD in other areas.
