View Full Version : Report a Vista Driver Bug to NVIDIA
I would like to see nVidia provide updates in their driver release notes that bugs submitted by us are being fixed. It would seem that all this site is trying to do is pacify us. For all I know the bugs we submit could go directly to the recycle bin.
they updatd their site yesterday i think.

I reported a bug that if you place windows taskbar on the top of your monitor, you will get wrong mouse cursor position in fullscreen 3D games.
If anyone can help me test it out. Simply unlock your windows taskbar and drag it to the top of your monitor, and launch fullscreen 3D games/applications, and see what's wrong with your mouse cursor.

I just tried FEAR, my cursor was ok, but the game showed some weird behavoir just the same. Character speeding along while trying to walk, and I couldn't paste any screenies. They come out black.
Maybe your cursor is just how this shows up on yours? It surely acts weird on mine.
EDIT: Just to confirm, dragged the bar back to the bottom and alls well.

My mouse cursor displays fine. But the actual cursor position is different from the displayed cursor position.
That difference seems just the same as the height of taskbar which positioned on top.
I tested it on SupCom Demo and some Jap games.

I didn't have that effect. I didn't expect the rest of the game to act up though. Somethings not playing nice with aero, at a guess. Not that you would want to leave it that way, but have you tried this with aero disabled? That fixes D3Radiant for me, so I wouldn't be surprised if another bug or 2 showed up.

What I find humurous is none of my STEAM games work yet are listed as Vista friendly. Dungeon Siege 1, yes 1, works fine. This even though Vista spits up a warning message at install warning me the universe will collapse if I try to play it.
Granted it does get about 5fps when lots of baddies show up on the screen, though.
I have no problem with HL2 / HL2 ep 1 / HL2 Lost Coast in Vista X64.
What steam games are u talking about?

Does anyone know if HDR + AA being broke in Oblivion under Vista is a bug that can be fixed or is it an "OS limitation" that will never be able to be fixed?

I don't think DirectX10 would remove HDR+AA. It's probably a bug. Or maybe they need to release a new patch for Vista compatibility.
I've been having some issues with the STALKER beta and Dark Messiah. Also, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles demo.
With the STALKER and TMNT demos/betas, all I get is a blank screen with the title music playing in the background. DM yields horrific stuttering of the sounds with a blank screen. So far these are the only issues I've come across, with my other games apparently working fine (so far).

Windows Hold'em is messed up. The text flickers all over the place and is unreadable..
//edit: after researching it, this is a known bug.

This was in my inbox this evening:
Dear NVIDIA Customer,
On behalf of the NVIDIA Vista Quality Assurance team, we would like to thank you for your participation and assistance in improving our products.
We are writing to let you know that there will be a new Windows Vista Beta driver release available to download from NVIDIA in the next few days. This is a new driver which will support GeForce 6, 7 and 8 series graphics boards; it does not support GeForce Go mobile GPUs. Please continue to check with your notebook manufacturer for a new driver for GeForce Go GPUs. GeForce FX users should continue to use the v96.85 driver.
The Vista Quality Assurance homepage has up to the date information on when the driver will be available to download, so please continue to check this website: http://www.nvidia.com/object/vistaqualityassurance.html.
Here is a summary of new features and bug fixes this new driver addresses:
New Features
GeForce 7 series SLI support
GeForce 6 series SLI support
GeForce 7950 GX2 support (both GPUs are now operational)
Key Bug Fixes
Improved OpenGL performance
Improved NVIDIA SLI performance at high resolutions
Brief corruption (flickering, boxes) on screen at Windows Vista login, CTR-ALT-DEL (Task Manager), or other function that requires Vista User Account Control
Playback issues when playing TV/DVD/video in Media Center with Aero enabled
Outputting via TV-Out shows only a black and white display
HDTV output does not keep HDTV resolution after restart
Adjusting Video Color settings from the NVIDIA Control Panel are not getting applied.
Change Flat Panel Scaling page does not correctly work in the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Brightness, Contrast and Gamma values remain the same in Adjust Desktop Color settings once closing and opening the NVIDIA Control Panel.
Corruption on DVI monitor while going to hibernation from standby
Call of Duty 2 has no performance gain when SLI is enabled
Madden NFL 07 while playing the screen will freeze, but the game will continue to run and you hear the in-game sounds.
General application compatibility fixes
Products Supported
GeForce 8800 GTX/GTS
GeForce 7 series
GeForce 6 series
When the driver is available, please view the driver Release Notes for a full list of bugs fixed, known driver issues, products supported, and operating system and application limitations. NVIDIA will continue to provide new drivers that will fix more known driver issues.
I'm hoping these are out by the weekend. I'm doing a fresh install on a new HD (a Raptor X), and I'd love to install new drivers off the bat.

EDIT: Nevermind, problem seems to be fixed with 160.03 drivers :)
Enabling HDR in Far Cry 1.4 results in black sky. Sky renders normally with HDR off. I am running at 2560x1600 and not using any FSAA.
I found a few reports of this same problem with earlier driver versions, all with Nvidia GPUs, AMD CPUs, and Vista.
Currently I'm using 158.24 on Vista x86, AMD Opteron 170, 7900GTX, Dell 3007WFP-HC

Who else has their screen go black off and on in "sneak mode" in "Oblivion"? I will lose a signal at certain points. I can even pan in place in some areas and have it occur. Moving or panning will restore video.
I can reproduce the bug downstairs in the "Flowing Bowl" at the docks area of "Anvil". In a normal walk or run it does not occur. It only happens with sneak active. (Ctrl)
I am using Vista x64 and the 158.24 driver.
Report a Vista bug? Hahahah
Ive been reporting the NVLDDMKM bug since february. Even saw a version claiming its been fixed. Liars!!! Still is, and i recon still gonna be in future versions. Ok, i admit, the beta versions can have some problems, but a friggin WHQL version with release note that the bug has been fixed ???
As writen in NVLDDMKM post, i get this error when just browsing the programs when i click start in windows.. how about that folks??? :thumbdwn:
Sigh...
Ye, Ye. Keep reporting guys. Pray for improvements.
Me? Im giving soon up.......

Where did you ever see it had been fixed?
They have only stated that they have managed to "reduce" the number of NVLDDMKM errors.
Last week when I got one of these errors while playing BF2142 I got a "Resolution found" on the error report to Microsoft. It only said "This issue is currently under investigation by Microsoft. Thank you for submitting the report as it will help us determine the cause of the error"
Where did you ever see it had been fixed?
Read and weep.. Under Key bug fixes.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/vista_driver_news_042607.html
Numerous fixes?? What numerous fixes? Theres only 1 file that stops, and thats the friggin ever lasting NVLDDMKM file....
Sigh... :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn:

Well I am having some serious problems. I've installed 169.25whql recently and at first all I thought it was ok. Until maybe the next day I don't remember precisely my screen went black while whatching a movie in WMP. I did not pay much attention, but ever since I have random crashes sending my monitor in standby mode. All I could do is a cold restart after which sometimes Vista reports the crash and searches for a solution, other times just nothing, it goes undetected. Sometimes monitor goes to standby even while loading vista and I can shut the os down normally by pressing the power button. Very weird. I've reverted to 169.09 and they had no such problems before - not anymore. Reinstalled several times doing driver cleaning in safe mode to no avail. I even doubt hardware problems. When I start playing The Witcher no problems at all thats why I don't beleave my vid card is broken - a play long 3, 4 hour sessions.
