View Full Version : win xp boot problem.
what do I do here? I don't want to risk crashing another computer and I dont have any spare ATA drives to use anyway. Is there any way to check the hard drive?

Any comments would be very helpfull.
Edit: windows will not boot at all.

Ugh... norton goback is one of the worst abominations I've ever had the misfortune of working with.
I've had it f*** up more than one system and delete a lot of important data. Not to mention the nice errors it gives like the one you're getting (or the way that goback protected\infected drives can't be read on other systems, which means no diagnostics or backups).
I don't know how to work around that error though. I'd suggest checking the symantec site or doing a google search. If you end up having to reformat or if your drive is dead, I highly highly recommend dropping goback.
if I can install win xp on a new, second hard drive can I retreave the data?
if not is there any other way?
and its a dell computer so add on parts are limited due to crappy case lay out:D
I put the hard drive on another computer (a dell 4600) it does not see the drive at all. how can I get it to detect it?
thanks,

The Bios can't detect it? I would say that the reason it can't see it is that both are set to be master. Is so then I would set the one that is having problems as the slave and then try it again.
