that's two 6 pin power connectors. That would limit it to 225w max and like most cases, it will more than likely never get that high as it's not smart to max out. So i'm thinking 200w or 180w.

This is good news so far, and R600 just went up a notch in my book. :p

Looks like the retail won't be as ugly or as long as the OEM for sure since the fan casing is the transparent red and on top of the PCB.

You are forgetting those connectors are in addition to the 75W of power supplied by the PCIe bus there my man and it has already been reported the XTX and the XT will suck down 240W.

Actully reading through B3D, I get the idea that that 8 pin power connector will work with 6 pin cords.

So it works like this guys..

you can have two 6 pin power connectors for a total of 225w. OR you can have one 8 pin power connector for a total of 225w if your power supply supports one 8 pin.

What PSUs even have an extra 8 pin connector?

The Silverstone 1kW and the Enermax 1000 DXX for example.

The one I just ordered, it has a 8 pin & a 6 pin saddled to it in one cable.

The Silverstone has 2x8 pin PCI-E and 4x6 pin PCI-E connectors.

In any case , that thing looks more power hungry than the 8800GTX :headexplode:

lol

Do you guys remember the rumors just before G80 was launched? It was speculated that it would consume over 200watts and that it would require a combination of air and water cooling. Both claims turned out to be false.

With that said, I'm expecting the R600 to be very comparable to the 8800GTX.

that small sample looks really nice, since AMD just opened crossfire to all dual pci-e slot motherboards I think I will get two of these:D

Problem is, for a while now ATI's cards have consumed a lot more power and ran a lot hotter than Nvidia's. They seem to be less efficient, and I think that's the basis for many of the jokes being made here. Not just rumors, but recent history as well.

This is kind of sad. It remind's me of the big honkin card 3dfx was attemting to redeem them selves with.
