Soon Nvidia will spoilt R600 launch to get in the match with G81.
Both Radeom X2800 XTX and Geforce 8900GTX will have...
same tech based on 80nm process...
same 128 shaders power...
same 700MHz core clock speed...
same DDR4 memory chips...
same 2.2GHz DDR4 memory clock speed and...
same price at $549!!!

The different about 8900GTX is a 80nm shrink of 8800GTX on 90nm plus enhancements and improvenments and could have about 130W power consumption. Probably about 30% faster than X2800 XTX.
I think R600 vs G81 match is about 384bit vs 512bit and about 130W vs 240W power consumption.

Wow. I wonder what the performance on the 8900GTX and 8950GX2 is.
I don't think ati stands a chance if that chart is accurate

If it comes out around the same time as R600 and it's faster it will definitely put a hurt on AMD/ATi.

If the chart are correct, I really not sure what the performance will be, 8950GX2 only $50 more with 1GB total 2GHz DDR4, 256bit interface and new SLi 2.0 technology.

Hmm...this makes me want to wait before buying the 8800GTS. Even though it is only $359 on newegg right now for the EVGA one, it will probably see a major price drop within the next month or two.

Well, you know something is afoot when NewEgg pulls the 30 day money back on the 8800 series cards.

Good to see nV is ready for R600.
But I won't change my cards until fall.

No need to, really, unless you want to take a chance on quad SLI again.
These refreshes are about what I expected. A very minor performance increase.

Same here, I'm very happy with my cards and I usually don't buy the refreshed cards.
There would be only one thing worth the change, the dual link HDCP problem. But since the HD DVD boom is still small here, it's not a real reason to upgrade.

I'm happy as a clam at high tide right now. :)
The refreshes are only a slight performance increase, and the R600 looks to be a very minor jump from the 8800GTX--maybe no jump at all with a decently overclocked GTX.
I should be sitting happy w/ my SLI setup throughout most of the rest of this year.

I think I'll probably end up ebaying my 8800GTX and swapping it out for an 8900GTX. Seriously, why not continue to have the fastest card on the market? It'l probably only cost me $50-$100.
Plus, this card is nice but it does have that irritating shutdown beep. Hopefully the 8900 wont.
Hmm don't spank me for being curious here, but that chart looks awfully a lot like the one posted in the r600xtx thread. I mean even the number of pipelines match for every single card, including the x2 cards of both companies.

Someone just copied this one and made it seem like the plan for nvidia. :headexplode:

Who will by the gts if it's only 50$ cheaper?

People who don't have an extra $50 to spend

Wow, I really hope these cards come out in March......I don't want to have to put my GTX on ebay. Of course, no one says EVGA will allow step up to the 8900 or 8950...
I don't I would risk an 8950GX2 tho, just because of how people with 7950GX2s are hurting as far as SLI drivers.

50 = one full gas tank.
just skateboard or take the bus for a week.
The X2800/X2900XTX might still be faster thanks to its 512-bit bus (if rumors are true anyways).

I have an 89 Buick LeSabre- and it takes nearly $50 to fill its tank. And my car gets about 20mpg in the city aswell. Not sure what your point was.

Uh, ya, that's about $75 (25 to 30 gallon tanks).
But, so what is this I hear that the 8900 GTX has some extra shaders that are now magically unlocked? 160 on the 8900 versus 128 on the 8800 GTX. And, the clocks are still 630, tops. No change there. Still on 90 nm, just more bandwidth.
Of course, that's the Inq for you. Never know, though.

Gas is $2.09 here. It costs about 30 bucks to fill up my Ranger. Last time I saw someone top $50 here was a suburban in front of me in line at the gas station a week after Katrina with gas at $3.16/gallon.
Sorry for derailing your silly analogy about gas tanks and video card prices.

The other source indicates the chip is in fact a die shrink to 80nm, and also claims different clock speeds. I tend not to believe either source. We'll see when it comes out.
Personally, I think there's some guys at NVIDIA's marketing department that feed the Inquirer loads of BS just for the sheer joy of it. The only time the Inq was right on the G80 was when it got close to the launch and they were just ripping off other sources, prior to that they were wildly wrong, even with all their "inside sources".

Yup, the INQ is using a crystal ball that has a few too many cracks.
I will wait and see what comes out. If it indeed is 25% better, as some suppose, I might make that leap.
BTW, my Expedition takes $65 to fill at $2.29. When it was about $3.00, $90. Mine has a 30 gallon tank. Old piece of crap :)
But, I refuse to have a car payment.
No car payment rocks. I'm waiting to upgrade on that front until a hybrid that doesn't suck comes out- hopefully one does before my Ford dies. The new chevy concept car looks slick, if they bring that technology to market any time soon.
I'm still waiting for the dust to settle from the vista driver debacle, the R600 release, and the subsequent response from nvidia before I make a move from my 7950 GT, or if I just hang on to it or add another one. Still a pretty new card and still handles most things pretty well.
Sure, it's only a few tanks of gas, but why waste the money?

My car costs about $30 to fill the tank all the way, and it takes me about two to three weeks to fully drain it with the way I drive. Just keep your RPMs low (read: don't slam on the gas every time the light turns green,) and coast when you are approaching a red light (don't always stay at the speed limit when there is obviously no point) and your gas mileage goes way up. Even better is if you go below the speed limit when there is a red light up ahead, to give everybody who is stopped enough time to accelerate, that way you don't need to come to a stop to wait for them. Less idling and less rev'ing that way. Give yourself plenty of time to get to where you are going and there won't be any temptation to do otherwise, nor cut people off.
People get pissed off at you for giving the impression that you are driving slow, but really it isn't going to take you any longer to get to where you are going, and if they did the same it wouldn't take them any longer either. Because of the way I drive, my city gas mileage is almost as good as my highway gas mileage.
