How would you rate running Quad SLI 7950 GX2 over 1 EVGA 8800 GTX KO? Which is going to be faster?

Well, I upgraded from quad sli to a single 8800GTX. Good decision imho:)

Does it seem faster for you vs. what you were running? Is the performance better with just the one 8800 GTX vs. what you had which was 4 GPU's in Quad SLI mode.

A.) Is the image quality better for you?

B.) FPS better for you over Quad SLI?

C.) Are you moving to 8800 GTX SLI soon?

A.) Yes, the IQ is most definitely a lot better. AF is vastly superior and CSAA improves my AA without much of a performance hit. Shimmering is no longer an issue at all and being able to use Vsync is super

B.) Yes, fps are much better. Tbh most games saw no boost from the second GX2. The GTX is noticeably faster all around

C.) Nope, I'm going to try sticking with one card from now on. Not only for not having to deal with profiles and the lack of vsync but also because I really like Intel chipsets.

Also there's a few benches with GXT vs. Quad at anand

So what you guys are saying is that, 1 8800GTX can be better than 4 GPU's? Wow, I wansn't aware of that.

Well for every additional GPU added to a parallel architecture there will be diminishing returns. This was especially the case with 7 series cards. The 8 series QUAD SLI solution will hold up much better comparatively.

To be fair. The quad sli wasn't much of an improvement over 2 gpu sli.

Yes, it really sucked! I was happier with my prior setup Watercooled BFG 7900GTX OC SLI. It killed the EVGA 7950 GX2 Quad SLI setup. I know when NVIDIA
comes out with their 8950 GX Series it crush even two 7950 GX2 Graphics cards.

quad was a bad idea from the start, in allot of cases it was slower then two cards

i thought the 7950gx2 was a great card, if it wasnt for that card, everyone would have been buying x1900's. quad sli was the next logical step.
the only problem i have was that nvidia and ati were still making new cards for the dx9 api, when those cards should have started to been phased out. thats y threads like this exist lol.
to the OP, check out 8800gts sli, it crushes quad sli.

Brother my EVGA 8800 GTX KO kills my prior Quad SLI setup. I'm going to step-up my cards to the EVGA 8900 GTX SLI in late march or april or even early may if something else better comes out! :D

You may even be able to grab a quad G80 setup before the end of the year. G80 SLI scales much better due to the dynamic ability of the stream procs.

I always thought the 7950GX2 SLI or quad setup was a joke ,or just another way nvidia could make more money off the same chip ,which you can't blame them ,people wanted it but I always thought two 7900GTX were better.I think one 8800GTX is better then the quad of the 7950's,only a few games were the 7950GX2 was Faster but the 8800GTX has better I.Q all the way around even if it is slower in some of the games where the 7950GX2 SLI was faster.
