That's two things

It's either GDDR3 or 4..

I have until March 27th on my step-up  Please hurry NVIDIA lol.

I have one more day then that,yes I agree,hurry up Nvidia :)

Do you know something the rest of the net does not ?? It would have to have a 512 bit bus to have 1 gig of ram on it... It'll have the same amount of ram(768) but more SP's and faster clocks on ram and gpu.

I think it may have an additional ROP if it does have an extra block of shaders? Wich may mean more memory and perhaps wider bus to the memory?

Nothing wrong with a nVidia monopoly. They're releasing new cards like they usually do in the face of no competition. I don't see them changing anytime soon.

Looks like no one here will buy a R600 if this rumour is true.

We've never seen nvidia operate with no competition though. Monopolies are rarely a good thing. I'd rather see ATI/AMD remain competitive. Would we have things like SLI, GX2's if it weren't for competition? Both companies are trying to adopt technology extremely aggressively b/c they know if they fall behind for even a single generation of technology they'll lose a lot of marketshare, like nvidia did with the Geforce 5.

This is why my step-up is good till May 5th.:D

Here is the thing. I bought an Intel motherboard for stability. This means that I can use crossfire not SLi. A lot of enthusiasts are in this category, so if the R600 is somewhat neck and neck with what nVidia has to offer, I think a lot of people are going to switch sides.

Mine is until May 14th, 2007 (nana2) I Can't wait to step it up. How long does it take to get the new card once you send the older one back to EVGA?

It won't have a 512 bit bus and it won't have 1 gig of ram. All this card will be is another itineration in the Nvidia cash cow perade. Just a slightly fastertweaked refresh of 8800 that will make all the Nvidia groupies go into a frenzy and jump straight form their 8800 series to the 8900 series....ala 7800 to 7900 all over again.

A fool and his money is soon parted, Nvidia know this and that's why they churn em out incessantly, refresh arter refresh after refresh = money in the bank for them and you the consumer gain zip.

Yep zip! What games have come out since 8800 launch that needed 8800?, If 8800 can play all games then why would you need 8900???....a fps or two more, e-penis braging rights?, whatever. Nvidia wins and we don't gain much at all.

If 8800 series remained the only top end for 18 months from release (like things used to be in the older days) then we the consumer would have a CHANCE of getting decent driver functionality and compatability and preformance in current and upcoming games. With a new card being released every few months we have buckleys of getting these things in the least, and after all, these things are the things we deserve having bought a top end 8800 series.

They, Nvidia, are only refreshing 8800 series to 8900 series because of the "game", which is MONEY for them at our expence. Unfortunately it looks like too many people are getting sucked into their trap.

lowdog all I ever here you say about Nvidia...their drivers and their cards is flat out BS. Seriously nearly every post I read from you is negative and not positive. Why keep coming back to nVNews when all you have to say is crap?

To me it simply sounds like you are jealous. Why don't you go get a job so you wouldn't have to say crap about all the cool new tech that is coming out?:p

Nvidia is a business and as such they have every right to make the products they do and charge whatever price they possibly like. Nobody is forcing you to buy their stuff. People here actually really like Nvidia products....imagine that.

No one's putting a gun to your head and forcing you to buy an 8900. I'd wager the vast majority of those that bought an 8800 won't buy an 8900. Those of us that didn't buy an 8800 just might buy an 8900.

And the driver argument is absurd. Both cards will use the same driver. It doesn't take any more resources to the driver team to support the 8900 vice the 8800.

Yes. Well.... I never had mod access to the forums. I just updated the news page now and then.

Yea the R600 will be pointless because it uses so much power and creates so much heat and if it performs just as well as the 8900GTX then nobody will buy it.

Yeah, those were good times with my Riva128, my first hardware accelerated3D videocard!!! The people on that site helped me a lot specially with the FF7 bugs.

Yeah, I think I found it when I was trying to get glQuake running on my Riva 128 that came in the Dell I bought for college (which still runs btw- though it's got a 5600 Ultra, not a riva 128- that 440 BX chipset was badass). Which, in the end, was kind of a crappy little card (cracking between polys and that horrid per-poly mip mapping), but it was the first one to do 2D/3D on the same chip and still do a half ways decent job of it.

Hmmmm i think i need to buy my next videocard... hint hint. At a very crucial time... perhaps in May?
