Hello guys. Thought I would do a Supreme Commander performance report, comparing Vista x86, Vista x64 and Windows XP SP2.
Test Setup:
Core 2 Duo 6600@3 Ghz
4GB RAM@667 - 5/5/5/15
8800GTX - 100.64s for the Vista Ops, 97.02 for WinXP
SB X-Fi Extreme Music
Resolution Tested: 1440x900 - 4xAA - Everything on max except Shadow Fidelity - Set on Low
What I did was fire up the skirmish game and play with the camera a bit. Had a hard time disabling Vsync on the Vista installations. I had to turn it on and then back off for it to be disabled within the game being played, the menu option didn't really work, neither did forcing it with the CP, which is a known problem.
Using fraps, I started the game, left it as it was and observed the scores. All strategic options were disabled, taskbar was moved to the right using the Alt-Up arrow combination.
Start-up Frame Rate w/Strategic Map off:
Vista x86 - 91FPS
Vista x64 - 85FPS
WinXP SP2 - 101FPS
Strategic Map on:
Vista x86 - 55FPS
Vista x64 - 55FPS
WinXP SP2 - 85FPS
Zoom out completely w/Strategic map off:
Vista x86 - 21FPS
Vista x64 - 20FPS
WinXP SP2 - 26FPS
Strategic Map on:
Vista x86 - 18FPS
Vista x64 - 18FPS
WinXP SP2 - 22FPS
There you go. The strategic map has an enormous hit on the Vista installations, though I can't even begin to understand why. It's just some colored dots! :)
Tony.
