View Full Version : I got my LiteOn 52X/24X/52X CD-ReWriter!
It rocks!
I am using it as my primary CD drive because it is faster at reading CDs than my DVD-ROM. It's great!
By the way, just to see how it records, I decided to copy a CD. I started to copy a CD, about half-way I decided to stop copying because I just wanted to know if there was any problem. However, the CD that I was copying to doesn't work anymore because I stopped half-way while recording. Is there any way to delete the data on that CD-RW? If I insert the CD in the computer while in Windows, the CD drive spins up and spins down continuously. So, is there any way to format that CD in DOS?

AFAIK there is no way to format a CDRW from an MS-DOS boot disk of any sort. Have you tried to right click the icon for the drive in my computer while the disc is inserted and choose format? Does the machine freak out when you try that?
I've had XP blue screen on me before when it had problems reading a disc in one of my optical drives (window goes into not responding and then explorer does, followed by blue screen/reboot).

That CD-RW is as good as toast. Next time, wait for the entire CD to finish recording before you do anyting with it.

Heh, a newbie error (no offense)...?
I waxed a DVD+R a few days ago doing something silly. I decrypted a disc with dvddecrypter and started to burn the ISO when about 25 minutes later I got an error message. Can't remember what it said, but I quickly discovered why it failed.
Silly me, I had forgotten that you can't fit the contents of a dual layer disc on a single layer disc without additional compression. I was telling dvddecrypter to burn a 6gig ISO onto a 4.7gig disc. Naturally, it didn't like that, but only failed after it ran out of space. Ding ding, one nice $1.90 coaster! Makes a great dog toy.
;)
If you were burning a CDR and stopped mid way, it's as good as toast.. (Makes a nice coaster for your drink though.)
If it is a CD-RW, that's no biggie... Just open up Nero, go to the "Recorder" menu, and click on "Erase ReWritable". Once you format the CDRW, you're good to go and it will work just fine.
If you don't use Nero, I am sure there is a simmilar choice from EZCD. Probably "format" or "erase" or something very simillar...

When I insert my "half-burnt" CD-RW in my drive, my computer kinda stops responding while it tries to read the disk.
No problem... Happy to help out.. :)
