Just curious, not even sure if this is the right forum. But I figure where there's hard-core gamers there has to be a mapper or three. Been learning D3Radiant and loving it. My first real effort is probably 20% complete.

I've done a bit of mapping before. I tend to get into it and learn how to do all the stuff but rarely end up completing anything and spend most of my time helping others because I suck at art stuff. Mapped for Tribes 2 and recently CS:S although I have dabbled in many other games.

Sound like me, I've never released anything yet, which is ok as it was all just learning. I'm hoping with this next one though.

I've always wanted to try to do it myself, but I'm not even sure where to begin. I have the special edition of UT2004 that will get you started, but 3dsmax is a little over my head for a newb.

I'd really like to take a few classes on maping and modding. Apparently we offer classes for them, just not on our campus. I need to find out who to talk to about learning UScript.

One of the reasons I'm staying with Radiant atm, very easy to learn compared to others I've tried. I've heard that Unreal editor is fantastic also.

I just made my first map, for our next LAN party. It's for Savage, which is pretty easy to map for because it's all outdoors so all you do is edit the heightmap for the terrain and then add props, which unless you want to do your own modelling are all included and you just have to place them.

For the most part I'm not willing to put the time in to make maps, but we have two custom maps for our LAN party that are buildings on campus made by a couple of other people, so I thought I would contribute too.:)

It is definetly alot of work.

Feel like posting some screenies of yours? :)

I really don't have decent ones yet, but they're not hard to get.

It just so happens that I needed to screenshot mine for the minimap tonight anyway, so I grabbed a couple of extras. Keep in mind this was mostly done in one night with a couple of hours of tweaking since then, so if anything seems out of place it probably is (although I was pretty careful to take screenshots where some of the rough edges weren't showing;)).

And just because I can, an RTS mode screenshot.:)

Ill say this to both of you, GREAT job on the lighting which most people can't grasp. I have never tried any other editor then UT. I think both of your maps are nice (makes mine look noobish). haha

Thanks...D3 lighting is a royal b*tch on wheels though. Only thing I've found I don't like about it. That and I have to learn scripting....:p

I mapped for Quake 2 and 3, now some Doom 3, Quake 4 and UT2004, but all my maps are "in progress" I waste a lot of time playing only in my spare time work in my mapping skills, trying to get "in contact" with Hammer editor

Hammer's got a bit steeper learning curve, but I hear it's fantastic if you do learn it.
I've never gotten past the 'in progress' stage :p , but this one I'm working now will get released, if I can make it all work together.

Just took this screen, I love the way a noclip outside the map can look.
