I know a lot of people have been voicing their discontent with NVIDA and their driver support for Vista. But I for one at least would like to give them some props for at least putting out drivers.

At least I have some decent drivers for my nForce4 board and my 8800GTS. Their not perfect, but for the most part I can still play my games.

Creative, on the otherhand, still hasn't released any offical drivers for their X-Fi series and the beta drivers are completely busted as far any hardware acceleration of DirectSound EAX.

So while NVIDA isn't batting a 1000, at least their doing a better job than most.

You´re right creative, logitech and razer in my case had beta drivers or none at all, at least Nvidia has support far from perfect but have support

That's not Creative's fault mate. AFAIK MS removed Direct Sound and EAX support from Vista. It only supports OpenAL now, and Creative have released ALchemy to convert D3D into OpenAL calls.

Windows Vista
Because of Xbox and Windows Vista integration, Microsoft is actively pushing developers to migrate new applications to XACT. As a result of this, Windows Vista runs DirectSound in emulation mode on the Microsoft software mixer. The emulator does not have hardware abstraction, so there is no hardware DirectSound acceleration, meaning hardware and software relying on DirectSound acceleration will have degraded performance. In the case of hardware 3D audio effects, they will not be playable.

A solution is to use an OpenAL driver. However, this only works if the manufacturer provides an OpenAL driver for their hardware. As of 2007, only Sound Blaster X-Fi is supported by a pre-release driver that supports DirectSound HAL, under the name 'Creative ALchemy Project'.

^^What he said. The creative x-fi beta drivers are working fine for me. All I want is the fancy control panel program. I don't like the lame ugly one.

I agree... they seem to be working for me too. But I also want remote control support back too... I use that more than anything else (expecially in games). Also, the volume seems to be off in some apps (meaning either really high or really low). Never had that problem in XP. Still waiting on Overclocking for my Video Card.. and remote control for my X-Fi and I'll be ready to use Vista more than XP.

That's right, I forgot about the remote...I don't use mine. Regarding the different sound levels...In vista you can control a programs volume by itself (well...some programs...maybe not all). If you go to the mixer (just double click the sound icon in the task bar) it will show all the levels for the differenet programs. Maybe they are set different from each other? Other than that I don't know...maybe it is a driver issue.
