BF2 and BF2142 FIX!
For all u guys getting errors pls check this post...PB and Rivatuner (aswell as ATi Tool) clash.
For more info:

Yeah, well Rivatuner obviously isn't the problem, because I don't use it or any other third party software and get the errors.
Its a driver problem.

I tryed the pb_system 1 thingy, I was able to play 3 or 4 rounds before it had issues.....
I dont really think it's a driver issue, I think it's an EA issue.....(nana2)

Rumored that if they make a new patch for BF2, it'll have Vista support. Hey, I think EA might actually care about us!

I only get this error in my desktop. I don't get it while playing any games I currently have installed: BF2, BF2142, Jade Empire, Company of Heroes, HL2, HL2:Ep1, CS:S, or CnC3:TW.
Anyone find any fixes for this yet? What's really annoying is that it seems to happen in "bunches" on my rig (see sig for specs). By bunches, I mean that I will get the crash/reload error for nvlddmkm at random times while I'm switching windows or doing basic tasks at the desktop and the recurring errors will happen 2-3 times in a row before it goes away for a while.

I have been free of this error completely by using 158.45. I've only had it for a week or so, however.
Before, yet, I had them in bunches, too.

Are you using powerstrip or riva tuner or any programs that are managing your video card?

Anyone who is having issues with bf2142 crashing please read this topic http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=226934 It totally fixed my problems. Hope it helps Thank the maker of riva tuner and others testing who discovered the problem. My game crashed for three days straight with the "Nvlddmkm Stopped responding" error. But like I said i came across this and bammo no errors for the past 2 days.

I use none of those, never heard of them until today
This isn't an EA games or nForce chipset issue only.
I have P965 chipset & i'm getting this error randomly in various games, last two being Painkiller & UT2k4.
Vista 64 here...

I've found that using 158.45 has almost completely obliterated this error...

Thats what I thought too but now it's happening again on certain occasions. Not sure yet but it seems only on opengl games, instead of everything before.
Il-2: 46 is my main issue now, crashes regularly. It's wierd because Il-2: FB had no issues and it's the same engine.
Question: Since this error is so generic and it's possible alot of people are having alot of problems that would cause this it's a shot in the dark. But could the large address aware problems in Vista 32 be a possibility? The reason I ask is I have a 64 bit disk sitting here in front of me, waiting for me to get off my but and order the extra RAM I planned on buying. Would it be worth a shot? Don't really want to bother with it yet if not.

all @stock (by the time I get around to wanting to OC things, I end up buying new components) :wonder:

I hate to ask such a nooby question, but how do know which one it uses, Direct3D or OpenGL? Is there a way to find out which game uses which? For example, Far Cry?

 Don't worry. I have to look it up and see what the publisher/ fansites say.
Il-2 was easier since you can choose which in the settings. However to enable "perfect" detail you must use opengl. Which of course means I must use opengl.
EDIT: looks like Farcry does both too. Man it's been a loooong time since I've played that. Bet it still looks good too.

Easiest Way: Run latest Rivatuner+Rivatuner Statistics Server to have OSD and FPS in Games
Before the FPS it will show if it Directx (it will show D3D9 before the frames) or OpenGL: OGL

No problem :)
ok i have just about gotten my problem with nvlddmkm to go away. And all i had to do was enable spread spectrum in bios. I know it slows down the machine and i know it can be noticable but i played bf2 for 3 hours strait and not a hicup. If this helps anyone else reply!

Thanx, can anyone else confirm this?
Had my first error in weeks happen yesterday...a few hrs after installing 162.15. Hasn't happened again yet, but I am thinking of either reinstalling 162.15 or going back to 158.43.

Interesting. Are you sure it just wasn't the computer restarting that fixed it? Restarting the computer has helped some people.
