View Full Version : Nvlddmkm stopped responding is getting VERY OLD...
Did this to me for the first time ever today with the 162.15s
I believe this is the main reason these drivers got pulled. I started getting these errors with this driver and I have never had this problem before.
I get this error on an older game Enemy Territories. It may happen 15 minutes into the game 5 or 2 hours. Very frustrating I've tried every driver released since the 100 Series for Vista.
It doesn’t seem to happen on other titles but then again I don’t play other titles as much as I play ET.
When you guys mention memory maybe a culprit do you mean system memory or GPU memory?

Sure thing. You could maybe up the volts or loosen the the timings, but your memory looks fine with a superficial glance. Try running with one stick or even MemTest.

P.S. Vista actually has it's own memory diagnostics, if you'd like.

Until there is a driver or perm fix, you could turn off Desktop Composistion. I started getting the error with this driver and after disabling Desktop Composistion the error went away completely.
With the last driver, I was able to get rid of it with the registry tweak found earlier in this thread.

Hmm.. i'm still getting it alot in Il-2:1946
I turned of Desktop Composition via the application shortcut properties along with run as admin and disable visual themes.
Using this method should be the same as turning it of permanently as far as the application is concerned correct?
I get this with every driver I tried so far. Except only once I managed to see actual blue screen with error. My lcd just flashes between signal and no signal and then turns off. Pc stays up until I power cycle it. When I was trying old pretty old driver I got a blue screen once, so I know its video driver.
Form me it happens seldom and in games only. I am running 8800 gtx from foxconn in vista64 on intel chipset and 4 gigs of ram.

I built my new system, first game I tried lost planet, BAM... got this error. Seemed certain since the build went very well.
During game play in lost planet the screen starts to artifact a little bit with shades of blue, then completely freezes. Then boots back to desktop with "nvlddmkm has stopped responded but has recovered".
Tried different driver versions, no luck... I've played all the Vista MS games with no problem. Using Vista 32 bit. So bogus...
Just to follow up on my last post. Over the weekend after a complete system reformat and O/S which I did on Tuesday I had an opportunity to play with the system extensively.
I have yet to receive any error of any sort, and my system seems totally stable. I hope this continues as I have played roughly 8 hours on Saturday and Sunday with no errors, and I Also ran orthos to prime the overclock over night zero errors 8 hr plus.
I hope this error never rears its ugly head it was the most annoying thing I’ve honestly dealt with on any of my systems. The driver I decided to use for the reformat was 158.45.
Games played F.E.A.R, Enemy Territories, and Quake 4.
After weeks of being nvlddmkm-error free, it hit again with a vengeance. Installed 163.11 and BOOM...display driver failures. So, reinstalled 158.45, STILL HAPPENING where before it was rock-solid stable!
I am out of ideas...might reinstall and move to Vista x64 this wknd just for the helluvit.

You installed DreamScene? This amplified my problems. I uninstalled it and the system got better, but I got it this morning while I was adding favorite servers in xFire. I am running the 163.11s as well. I am thinking of going back to the 158.45s. I never had it happen to me once with those drivers.
Dreamscene has been installed since day one for me, but I never use it....would be something to avoid if/when I do a reformat. Also, 158.45 was THE golden driver for me until I reverted back and the problem persisted--very frustrating.
Yeah.....I didnt add dreamscape this time around , and Iam avoiding anything I feel might contribute to these error. Sad we have to do these thing to avoid the headaches.
I've never had this problem before. But after installing the 163.11 it is happening every 5 minutes or less.
Well I just tried playing a game and all I get is this error over and over again. It happens every couple of seconds now playing 3D games. I will have to go back to an earlier driver me thinks.

Going back to 158.45s right now. I submitted a bug report to NVidia. Hopefully this gets fixed. It is really getting old that every new driver, that has performance improvements, does this.
I hate to say it, but I don't have ANY issues on my Alienware with an ATi Mobility Radeon X1800 XT. I hope driver development gets on the ball at NVidia because they have a superior product to me, but without stable drivers, what good are they???
I'm back to 158.45...holding error free for 2hrs now--I hope it holds. This is the most frustrating error I've ever had to deal with. :headexplode: :headexplode: :headexplode: :headexplode:

I had to do the same and haven't had any issues in the last day.

I registered now to give my findings on this error. My problems started about a month ago after a windows update. My system.
Evga 680i
Asus 8800 GTX
4 Gigs Corsair pc 8500
Vista Ultimate 64
Since it started no driver would make it stop and the only way I could do anything on my pc was to shut it down completly, unplug the power cord and let it sit for a minute and then start it back up. After reading these boards and trying every driver and underclocking the card, to underclocking my whole system, I thought maybe my card was bad so I went and bought another one, but this time I got a EVGA 8800 gtx. Well it worked for three days flawlessly, until last night. This was using the 163.11 drivers I got the error again so I installed the 158.45 and it worked for a while but it is doing it all the time now. I really dont know what else to try. Why would it work fine for three days and then come back again? Temps on the card at idle are around 60 and at full load about 70-75.
I know there is no fix for this, just thought Id share my experience.

Agree 158.45 is also golden driver it newest driver without that error
All 16x.xx series suffer that same bug atleast in my config
But in my case i can play just fine or use windows without any errors
but soon as there is japanese or chinese letters on web sites or in my favorites in IE7 or in folder in my comp driver stops responding
Hoovering mouse pointer over folders containing above language letters instanly stops video driver.
Also i don't have dreamscene (as i have understand it it is Ultimate extra am i right?) i have home premium so no dreamscene.
It is so annoying

Both 158.45 and 162.15 have been 'golden' drivers for me. I reverted back to 162.15 after running 163.11 for 2 days. I also tried 162.22 for a bit. 163.11 and 162.22 both gave me the error during games. It made WIC unplayable, sometimes even CTD with the error during the main menu. Both seemed fine in the desktop, browsing, etc, at least for my config...
I've had this problem since after 158.45, but it only appears on the desktop, never in gaming, and only ever hour or so. I guess these are all Beta drivers so I can't expect them to be perfect.
I just wish a damn DX10 SLI WHQL driver was out. If there aint by the time Bioshock's out i'll be annoyed to say the least.
