I recently reinstalled vista 32bit, after having vista 64bit (had to downgrade because of vpn issues)

I had 2 games installed Battlefield 2 + mods and UEFA Chanpions League, I've been playing these games for weeks without any problems, actually I haven't seen the "Nvlddmkm" error at all.

Yesterday I bought and installed Battlefield 2142, guess what!? yup after around 10-30min game play, boom "Nvlddmkm" error, EVERY time I try to play it BF2142, I get this error.

Which makes me think, what did BF2142 do to my system, when it installed itself? I remember it "Updating DirectX" - could that be the problem, I will try playing BF2 and UEFA and see if I now get this error in these games.

But does this driver issue occur for some that do not overclock their Rigs just curious more than anything else, and lastly do folks with XP get this error or a similiar related erro or problem or is this just isolated to Vista
thanks in advance.

My rig is not overclocked in anyway. Right out of the box. Assembled by those who selled it to me. A company that sells, and builds Pc's.

And no, its not only related to Vista. In windows XP the error is similar, but different file..

Vista error: The display driver NVLDDMKM has stopped responding.. GRARGH (I hate writing this even)

XP error: The display driver nv4_disp has stopped responding..

So whats going on with Nvidia ?? :thumbdwn:

UPDATE

I can play BF2 and UEFA without any problems, BF2142 still caused a Nvlddmkm error after few mintues.

So I decied to update my DirectX (www.microsoft.com/directx -> download lastest), after the update I restarted, even though it didn't ask to.

So far the problem appears to be GONE, I played BF2142 for over an hour for the first time ever.

Hope this helps. I'm using 163.44 beta bioshock drivers

I take it back, BF2142 crashed twice.

Thanks Nnidia for making my $2,200CDN SLI purchase useless ( yes i paid $1,100 for each 7800GTX512) :thumbdwn:

Had my first nvlddmkm with the Bioshock drivers last night...didnt happen at all until STEAM downloaded/installed a DX10 update. Not sure what it was as I thought I was current with the software. I think I may try reinstalling these drivers later and see if it changes things.

EXACT same situation here. I can't believe that I haven't found a fix yet. ZoLoco, have you tried messing with any voltages yet?

I got this error for the first time last night on Vista, and I was pissed because I recognized it from this thread. I had just enabled nvidia chipset compatibility mode in Rivatuner though... and when I turned it off again, no errors. (nana2)

I didn't read the entire thread, so sorry if this has already been mentioned.

Okay after long last I have found a real fix for the NVLDDMKM.SYS ERROR. I have spent tons of hours reading articles and forums. This is what will work for everyone. I have 3 computers in my house all with different Nvidia cards and different versions of Vista. Quick run down.

COMP 1
Dual Xeon 2.8
Geforce 6800 Ultra
Vista 32
2 Gigs Ram

COMP 2
AMD 64 FX-2
Dual Geforce 7900 GTX
2 Gigs Ram

COMP 3
Quad Core 2.4
8800 GTX
2 Gigs Ram

They all suffered the dreaded nvlddmkm.sys error. But I HAVE A SOLUTION! It doesnt involve changing ram or altering bios. You need to find a way to disable these features:

-Enable per-user virtual file and registry.
-Automatically trigger an eleveation request for setup
-Switch to the secure desktop to display elevation request for setup programs
-Programs that access other programs' interfaces must be installed to a secure location

If you cant find these settings there is a GREAT company that makes software. Same company that developed Dreamscene. If you need the program and feel like the company should get some credit PM or email me (yunyoungjo@comcast.net) and I will provide the link and name of the software.

INSTRUCTIONS AFTER ACQUIRING THE SOFTWARE

Its called *******. After you get that program goto the [Security] than [Advanced] tab. Uncheck all the security boxes. WARNING THIS WILL REDUCE THE SECURITY OF YOUR SYSTEM. But you have to decide to use my computer or have a useless computer that gets the driver stopped responding error. I promise you this will work. I have ran the program and done this to all three of my computers and they work great !! Now hopefully they fix it so I can put the security back. Its so beautiful computing without NVLD.

Ugh, I'm getting this **** on the desktop now! I'm so sick of all these ****ing driver problems. I'm fed up with all this crap. It makes me want to just use Linux, and dual boot with XP for gaming.

I had 4 sticks of RAM that all checked-out great using memtest, but on a whim I swapped in 2 sticks of PC6400 (had PC8500). That was about a wk ago and the error hasnt returned. I've been running aero and dreamscene, plus gaming (all of which would cause the error eventually) and have yet to see the problem again. the PC8500 RAM was fine but I think the load of 4 sticks may have had something to do with this error on my system.

Damn it!!! I havn't had this error for over a month then in the last 10 minutes while playing BioShock my displays wen't blank, came back on but unresponsive for about a minute and had to C-A-D out of my game.

So much for thinking I would never have this problem again!

off topic// BioShock is sweet.

Oh, it's like, "you have to have this specific configuration, and you wont get this error". Ugh, I'm so pissed off at Vista right now.

Hmmm, I may have a fix for this afterall. A stupid fix, but a fix none the less. Last night I formatted Vista again, I updated everything in proper order, and rebooting in between. Soon after the last reboot, I got none other than a DSR error, and a BSOD no less. So my friend said, reformat, but DO NOT update Windows. Which I did, and guess what? NO DSR error yet! Stupid, but it might work. I have to find out which update breaks the nvidia drivers >_<

Try using a board that isnt nVidia 680i, or not nvidia period. Like Intel p35 or x38. I know many that are having this nvlddmkm driver issue, but most of them(90+%) have 680i or other nvidia motherboardīs.

I am having the same problems as others,

\Nvlddmkm Stopped responding

System specs,
VISTA BASIC: 32 Bit
Motherboard: GA-N680SLI DQ6 Rev 2.0
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8650
Memory: Crucial DDR2 1066 2GB Kit
GPU: 2X 8800 GTX
Power Supply: 850W

Everything is 100% stock at the appropriate settings,
This error i have not seen in a long while since installed 163.44
However since i put LOTRO (Lord of the Rings Online) back onto my system
this error occurs more then ever before,

Everything was fine, last night i decided to put LOTRO back on and use up my last month of subscription, the first not even 2 minutes of ingame i get the error and now i get the error for every other game,

My motherboarde is N680 board and i dont think it has anything to do with it,
I have used 6600 GT in SLI, 7600 GT in SLI, 8600 GTS non SLI, and they had no problems on this system what so ever,

it seems like once u get this error message doesnt matter what game u play u will get it constantly once it happens,

And for me my system was running fine for atleast 2 weeks not even turned off, with 163.44 drivers.

Im just wondering if it has something to do with LOTRO, no one has any mention of this and what game makes it happen,

No other game makes this happen until LOTRO is installed onto my PC.

list of every game i have played that is 100% fine in terms of NVLDDMKM error,

BF2
BF2142
Eve Online
S.T.A.L.K.E.R
Company of Heros
Guild Wars
Need For Speed Carbon
GTR 2
Age Of Empires III
Joint Task Force

It is either LOTRO client that stuffed it up or Netframe work update.
System was 100% stable for more then 2weeks until that.

:edit This was the actual first time i got a Bluescreen and infact got this error from 163.44 Drivers,
This leads me to think its either
1. NetFramework update that Vista installed after installing LOTRO (or)
2. LOTRO itself.

???

EDIT:
Seems like i found a fix, well so far last day it hasnt crashed compared to crashing every single time i enter a game,
I reduced the heat inside my system, Firstly Disabled Smart Fan in Bios, Cranked up the fans on the Cards and Removed the side case.

This has reduced CPU temperature by almost 50% (smartfan ?? STUPID Fan)
This reduced Case Temp by almost 20 Degress,
This pritty much reduced the temp on every component inside the case by alot, Chipset seems to be Touchable now without burning ur hand, the 8800GTX have reduced by 15+ degress each.

Seems like most of everyone problems here i would think is not suffiecnt cooling and its actually shuting down ur cards not becuase it says its going to cause dmg in the error, becuase it really will.

I would advise anyone with this error the Downlaod NVtune and check there GPU temps asap,
I dont care if yopu have everything 100% stock, it doesnt matter these N680 Boards and N80 Series cards get hot.
They are beasts at stock speeds you need sufficent cooling,

The quickest way is by disabling Smart fan, This function when enabled basically does not move your CPU fan,
make sure ur 8800 GTX dont go over 60-65 Degres Idle Temp and 75 Degres at Load.

When ur CPU get over 40 Degress ur whole system gets hot,
When ur GPUS get hot your whole system gets hot.

I think the SLI certifited Cases are Certified for a reason there not just marketing BS, i havent got one myself but i wish i did now.
Remmember Heat Rises, cases with a vent ontop of the Case, it must be good design.

ok i have offically gaven up, What i thought fixed the problem has nothing to do with it, Although it stop happening instantly after doing that, i just think it was a coincidence.

This is crazy, Is this a Vista Related Issue or does this happen on XP also,
Im not going to re-install windows the 10th time only to have the same problem going onto XP, i havent tried XP yet,

I have noticed when it starts, If this does not happen with XP then this would make sense also, but if it does then this is ****en stupid it must be something wrong with these new N80 Series cards.

Ok so far what i have observed here is this.

1. Intall Vista + Drivers Then updates = Fine
2. Intall BF2 + BF2142 = Fine
3. Intall Blender + Nero = Fine
4. Intall LOTRO = NVLDDMKM.dll ERROR's
5. reduced temps inside case = Fine again
6. Install Settlers 6 = NVLDDMKM.dll ERROR's
7. No Fix

Ok well i basically think it is something got to do with DX9 Files,
LOTRO i know done some updates and it stuffed up my comp and gave me the error.
Same with Settlers 6 when it updated some DX9 Stuff.

Any other suggestions ?
